John Tesh is an incredibly talented pianist and composer, and is also a radio host and television personality. But beyond all that, he’s a Christian who is speaking out about the power of prayer and how he thinks reading Scripture changed him for the better and helped him make it through his cancer diagnosis.
Mr. Tesh did so when speaking to The Christian Post, saying that he thinks people need to remember there are dark forces out there working against them which must be overcome for them to live good lives and beat back the evil trying to influence them.
Particularly, speaking about the devil and people not realizing the danger of the dark forces during his interview with The Christian Post, he said, “I have found that many people don’t truly understand that there are dark forces, that the devil is after your mind. They don’t understand that. It’s hard to believe because there are so many movies about it and all that. Many people think that when a thought comes into their mind, it comes from them, and it’s not. It’s put there by some other force.”
Continuing, he went on to not the utter importance of continual prayer for staying strong in one’s faith and keeping out that darkness, saying, “If you have so much unbelief and doubt in your heart, it’s like two pickup trucks that are chained together going in opposite directions, and you can’t get anywhere. A consistent prayer life is like a muscle; you have to work on it.”
Making the point that Scripture is particularly helpful in looking at things differently and overcoming obstacles and challenges, he said, “And then, you’ll read a Scripture in the Bible and all of the sudden, you face a different challenge, and that Scripture comes alive in a different way.”
Giving an example from his own life, he described how a CD from preacher Andrew Wommack helped change his life after he was diagnosed with cancer. Describing it, Tesh said, “[Wommack] said that the Bible says, ‘Whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says,’ and ‘For whatever you ask when you pray, believe that you receive it, and you will have.’ I thought, ‘Wow, my mountain right now is cancer.’ My wife and I started digging deeper to understand the true nature of God.”
Then, using that to explain how he then looked at Scripture differently and overcome cancer, Tesh said, “I’ve read the Bible for years, but I never really truly landed on those Scriptures. And that really started a journey of dual-modality for me, science and doctors, and also, what does the Bible say about health and healing?”
Explaining how that close reading of Scripture helped him, Tesh added, “There are some churches that teach healing and only healing through faith, but that’s not what worked for me. What worked for me was using what God did for medicine, and then also being able to renew my mind and have a focus of what God really wanted for me and be able to visualize my future.”
