A beautiful rendition of the popular Christian hymn “Amazing Grace” was performed at the highly anticipated reopening of the historic Notre Dame Cathedral on December 8. During the monumental reopening of the 861-year-old landmark, which was severely damaged in a fire roughly five years ago, the South African Opera singer Pretty Yende delivered the moving performance that has drawn critical acclaim online.
Among the many who have praised the performance, actor James Woods wrote, “This is food for the soul and a chalice for the heart. AMAZING GRACE at Notre Dame Cathedral.” Many others in the comments section expressed agreement with Woods. “So beautiful. It makes me cry for such beautiful God-given talent. Makes me wish I had gotten in that line when the talents were handed out,” one person said.
Another user wrote, “There are moments in time that pierce the heart and touch the soul. For me, this is one of those moments. Thank you, James. You have no idea how much I needed this lovely music this morning. ❤️” Echoing this sentiment, one person wrote, “Thank you so much. This is what we humans can do – create amazing beauty. True worship of our Creator. May we find a way to turn our hearts to this more and more.”
The popular political commentator Sagezza Eterna wrote an extensive post about the the sheer importance of the Notre Dame performance from Yende, arguing that it is far more than just a concert. The comment pointed out that the performance was a representation of perseverance embodied by President-elect Donald Trump in his return to political power.
“Patriots of America, this performance of “Amazing Grace” at Notre Dame Cathedral is not just music; it’s a profound symbol of our enduring spirit and faith, much like the America First ethos championed by President Trump. In a world where our cultural heritage and Christian values are under siege, this act of worship stands as a beacon of resilience,” the lengthy post read.
“Under Trump’s leadership, we saw a president who openly embraced our Christian roots, who stood for religious freedom against the secular tide of the left. This hymn, echoing through the hallowed halls of Notre Dame, reminds us of the strength and beauty of our traditions, which Trump sought to protect from the cultural erosion pushed by progressive agendas,” the post continued.
“It’s a clarion call to remember where we come from, to cherish the faith that has shaped our nation, and to reject those who would see it diminished. Trump’s policies aimed at preserving our cultural sovereignty, ensuring that our churches could remain open, our voices heard, and our traditions respected,” Sagezaa Eterna added before concluding, “Let this moment be an inspiration to stand firm in our beliefs, to embrace the grace that defines us, and to continue the fight for a nation that honors its spiritual heritage. If you resonate with this message of faith and cultural preservation, share it.”
