Congressional reporter Michael Schnell highlighted a letter from top Democrats referring former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem to the DOJ for a potential perjury investigation. They allege she made false statements under oath during March 3-4, 2026, hearings, including claiming DHS complied with court orders, and asserting President Trump approved a $220M+ ad campaign featuring her, an ad campaign that was handed to insiders in what smacks of corruption.
The letter calls her testimony a “brazen attempt to undermine” oversight, though Democrats note low expectations for action under AG Pam Bondi. This ties into Noem’s firing amid the ad scandal, with Rep. Nancy Mace previously criticizing the wasteful personal PR spending and calling for GOP accountability.
In a viral news clip, congressional reporter Michael Schnell, reported, “This letter this morning coming from Congressman Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, and Senator Dick Durbin, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and they essentially are asking the Department of home, the Department of Justice, to investigate these allegations against Kristi Noem.”
Digging into the allegations, he claimed that she may have perjured herself during hearings before the two committees earlier this month. It basically stems from four allegations of four areas where these Democrats, Democrats believe that Kristi Noem perjured herself.”
“First off, when discussing DHS’s compliance with federal orders, Kristi Noem said that DHS has indeed complied with federal court orders. Democrats say that there are plenty of examples of DHS defying those court-related orders, particularly pertaining to the release of individuals from ICE detention,” he added.
Schnell added, “There are also allegations stemming from that multimillion-dollar ad campaign that Kristi Noem was asked about Noem during it, saying that Trump had approved it. They point to an interview the President did afterwards with Reuters, where he said he had no awareness of it.”
“So those…allegations, that’s where this referral is coming from. Again, Democrats want the DOJ to look into Christie Noem for potential perjury. Jamie Raskin and Dick Durbin, in their letter, recognize that it’s unlikely the DOJ will go down that route, given how closely aligned Pam Bondi had been with the President, but nonetheless, they believe it is worth pointing to and looking into,” the reporter noted.

He also quoted the letter, which read, “After nine months of evading our committee’s request to testify in routine oversight hearings, Secretary Noem made a series of demonstrably false statements and a brazen attempt to undermine critical congressional oversight of the Department of Homeland Security.”

It is not just Democrats who are upset with Noem. As we reported in the American Tribune, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) has been sounding the alarm on this scandal as well. “I had no idea how much money — hundreds of millions of dollars — that Kristi Noem had wasted on her personal PR for all those TV ads that are running across the country that have nothing to do with deporting illegal aliens.”
Wrapping up her comments, she noted “And so, I’m looking forward to the new leadership. I’m looking forward to President Trump being even more effective with better leaders within DHS. I think this was the right call,” adding, “I don’t think she walks away from this, and she shouldn’t, because as Republicans, we need to hold our own accountable because President Trump is trying to reinstill trust in our institutions, in Congress, in the White House.
