Woke Democrat Moves to Force Impeachment of President Trump

A woke House Democrat has enraged members of his own party by creating a resolution that moves to impeach President Trump, a decision that his fellow Dems have described as “selfish,” arguing that the resolution was motivated by the representative’s desire to win the upcoming primary.

For context, Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI) announced on May 13, 2025, that he had created a resolution calling for a vote to impeach President Trump, saying that the president was interfering with Constitutional checks and balances. In response, other House Democrats contended that the resolution was selfishly motivated and would distract the party from working against House Republicans’ efforts to cut Medicaid spending.

In a press release from May 13, 2025, Rep. Thanedar announced his resolution, saying, “Now is the time to take action,” and adding, “As a member of Congress, I have a responsibility to uphold the checks and balances that safeguard the integrity of our democracy, and right now those checks are being eroded by a president who feels he is above the law.”

Continuing, Rep. Thanedar described President Trump’s alleged violation of checks and balances as “a red line,” adding, “We cannot stand by regardless of whether we have the votes on the other side of the aisle. It’s never the wrong time to stand up for our Constitution.” In addition, Rep. Thanedar argued that President Trump “retaliated against journalists and critics for speaking out” against his policies.

Concluding his announcement, Rep. Thanedar said, “It’s time for us to take action,” going on to heap further criticism on the president with little evidence to back up his claims. He added, “This President has a clear disregard for our constitution. I call on my colleagues from both sides of the aisle to stand up for the Constitution, defend their oath, and protect the American people by supporting my articles of impeachment.”

According to press accounts, several House Democrats were outraged over Rep. Thanedar’s resolution after its announcement. Speaking to Axios, a senior Democrat representative, who asked to remain anonymous, said, “People are pissed,” and another added, “It’s going to cause Democrats in [competitive] seats to make tough decisions.” In a more aggressive response, an anonymous representative said of the resolution, “This is the dumbest f—ing thing. Utterly selfish behavior.”

Furthermore, according to Axios, Rep. Brad Schneider, a Democrat from Illinois, also argued against Rep. Thanedar’s resolution, calling it a distraction and saying, “We need to focus on resolution. 100% of our energy is on dealing with this.” In response, Rep. Thanedar told Axios that his resolution was not motivated by a desire to win his primary, saying, “It’s too early — 15 months. I’m not worried about that. It’s not about elections … it’s about doing the right thing.”

On Wednesday, May 14, Rep. Thanedar reportedly defended his resolution to reporters outside the U.S. Capitol building, saying, “Will I succeed this week? Maybe not, but we’ll continue to do this until we have a victory. We’ll continue to fight until we have a victory, until we remove this president from office for his unconstitutional, illegal, impeachable misconduct.” He added, “We’re not going to give up for any kind of pressure to do that.”
