In the wake of President Biden’s debate debacle that unfolded last week, there has been increased speculation as to whether Biden is fit for a second term in the Oval Office. On top of this, Axios recently ran a report that claimed White House aides close to the president suggest he is only “dependably engaged” between a six-hour window of time throughout the day.
Reportedly, a group of eight current and former aides in the White House told the outlet that they have “seen flashes of an absent-minded Biden” at times, where at other times the president is “engaged” in other instances. Furthermore, sources told Axios that Biden is “dependably engaged” between the hours of “10am to 4pm.” Reportedly, the sources claimed that “outside of that time range” and when Biden is traveling abroad where time zones vary, “verbal miscues” and general tiredness are prone to be evident.
The reports seemingly corroborate Biden’s poor performance at the debate which started at 9:00 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, lasting well into the evening. During his comments, the president often mumbled, froze mid-sentence, and had a look of general confusion on his face when not speaking.
In the aftermath of what occurred during the presidential debate, the Democratic Party has descended into a panic while trying to navigate the path ahead. The American Tribune reported on comments from former aides under the Obama administration, who profanely noted how “f***ing awful” Biden’s debate was.
During an appearance on the “Pod Save America” podcast former head speechwriter for former President Barack Obama, Jon Favreau, maintained that he wouldn’t “sugarcoat” how poorly the debate went for the presumptive Democratic nominee. Favreau said, “You don’t listen to us to sugarcoat anything, I think it was a f*cking disaster. I think it was like the worst debate I’d ever seen in my entire life. Donald Trump is a threat to democracy, Donald Trump is just a despicable human being, he should not be president.”
He continued, stressing who much of a disaster the debate was for President Biden. “We have to do literally everything we possibly can to make sure he is not president again and that is why it was so f*cking awful because Joe Biden just in every single way failed at that debate. And, I don’t know what else to say there … but it was a disaster.”

Despite the sour sentiment from his former aide, Barrack Obama took to X, posting a message of encouragement to his former vice president. Obama sympathized with Biden, citing his own experience with having a bad debate night.
“Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself. Between someone who tells the truth; who knows right from wrong and will give it to the American people straight — and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit. Last night didn’t change that, and it’s why so much is at stake in November,” Obama wrote.
