WATCH: Woke Senator Gets Emotional, Brought to Tears while Recounting Being Handcuffed for Assaulting Cop in Ridiculous Senate Floor Speech

Sen. Alex Padilla got extremely emotional while recounting his experience of disrupting Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s press conference and getting forcefully removed, telling his fellow senators that he prayed they would never experience what he did while giving a dramatic speech in the Senate chamber.

For context, Sen. Padilla became the subject of intense scrutiny after he interrupted a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) press conference and was forcefully removed by Secretary Noem’s security detail on June 12, 2025. Following the incident, Sen. Padilla spoke in the Senate chamber, using his experience as a case against the crackdown on illegal immigration in Los Angeles.

During his speech on the Senate floor, Sen. Padilla dodged responsibility for his wrongdoing, saying, “I was physically and aggressively forced out of the room even as I repeatedly announced I was a United States senator and I had a question for the secretary.” Ignoring the fact that he forcibly disrupted the press conference, Sen. Padilla added, “I was pushed and pulled, struggled to maintain my balance.”

Continuing, the senator described himself as being “forced to the ground, first on my knees, and then flat on my chest” by Secretary Noem’s security detail, adding, “And as I was handcuffed and marched down a hallway, repeatedly asking, ‘Why am I being detained?’ not once did they tell me why.” Getting increasingly emotional, the senator said, “I pray you never have a moment like this.”

Attempting to build on his point, Sen. Padilla said that in the moment he was escorted out by security, “a lot of questions” came into his mind. He elaborated, “First of all, where are they taking me, ‘cuz I know I’m not just being escorted out of the building. Am I being arrested here? And what will a city already on edge from being militarized think when they see their United States senator being handcuffed just for trying to ask a question?”

As the senator got teary-eyed, he explained that in that moment, he was wondering, “What will my wife think? What will our boys think?” Continuing, the senator addressed the president directly, along with his fellow senators, saying, “It’s, uh, important for me, for this body to know that, uh, over last two weeks, in Los Angeles, my hometown, that we’ve seen masked federal agents in tactical gear ordered into our communities, we’ve seen a disturbing pattern of increasingly extreme and cruel Immigration Enforcement operations.”

Next, Sen. Padilla described Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel as only making arrests “to meet an arbitrary quota,” adding that President Trump had mobilized the National Guard “without the governor’s consent” and saying that President Trump had made decisions “without coordination with state and local law enforcement.”

Moreover, the senator said that the Trump Administration “has done everything in their power but to provide transparency to the American people about their mission in Los Angeles.” The senator then defended his interruption of the DHS press conference once again, saying, “I chose to go home to try to get answers from the administration, as they are literally militarizing our city.”
