In a tense interview with ABC News anchor Terry Moran, President Donald Trump cleared the air on several of the most controversial topics surrounding his first 100 days in office, including tariffs and deportations, with the conversation getting heated as Moran grilled the president.
For context, in an April 29, 2025, interview, President Trump discussed some of the key events of his first 100 days in office, including developments in foreign policy, the economy, executive powers, and more, during an Oval Office conversation with Terry Moran, ABC News’ senior national correspondent. The back-and-forth between the host and the president primarily focused on tariffs, and President Trump pushed back hard on Moran throughout.
During the interview, Moran told President Trump that “there is a lot of concern out there” regarding Tariffs, adding, “People are worried, even some people who voted for you sayin’, ‘I didn’t sign up for this.’ So, how do you answer those concerns?” In response, President Trump said, “Well, they did sign up for it, actually, and this is what I campaigned on.”
Continuing his response, President Trump staunchly defended his policies, saying, “I said that we’ve been abused by other countries at levels that nobody’s ever seen before … I could’ve left it that way, and at some point, there would’ve been an implosion like nobody’s ever seen. But I said, ‘No, we have to fix it.’ I’ve — I’ve wanted to do this for many years.”
Moving on, the president zeroed in on the issue of rising prices of eggs, which has reportedly been a major source of concern for many Americans. He told Moran, “They hit me the first week, ‘Eggs, eggs, eggs,’ like it was my fault. I said, ‘I didn’t cause this problem. This problem was caused by Biden. What’s the problem with eggs?’ And they said, ‘They’ve doubled it.’ Well, eggs are down 87% since I got involved,” He added, “And by the way, there were plenty of eggs for Easter, which we just went through.”
Switching the subject to the president’s immigration policies, Moran asked Trump if he believed that “really bad guys” deserve due process, to which the president replied, “Well, they get a process where we have to get ’em out, yeah.” He continued, “If people come into our country illegally, there’s a different standard. These are illegal. They came in illegally.”
In addition, Moran asked President Trump if he agreed with podcaster Joe Rogan’s comments about providing due process to deportees, quoting Rogan as saying, “We gotta be careful that we don’t become monsters while we’re fighting monsters.” President Trump said, “Oh, I agree with that a hundred percent, yeah. We want to be careful.” He then added, “We are careful. We’re doing something that has to be done. We have a country that’s very sick.”
