WATCH: Trump Drops the Hammer On Newsom By Overturning Terrible California Law

President Trump has dropped the hammer on woke California Gov. Gavin Newsom by overturning a law that mandated green energy policies that the governor had put in place, dealing a major blow to the state and its hardcore environmentalist agenda.

For context, on June 12, 2025, President Trump signed a resolution that blocks California’s rule banning the sale of newly manufactured gas-powered cars by 2035. Press accounts confirmed that the state planned on contesting the president’s resolution, with a press release from California Attorney General Rob Bonta announcing that he had, along with Gov. Newsom, filed a lawsuit against the federal government.

When he signed the resolution, President Trump described California’s rule as “a disaster for this country” and called the state’s regulations “crazy,” according to press accounts. In addition, the president jokingly said, “No autopens allowed,” referring to the alleged use of an autopen by former President Joe Biden.

Moreover, the president reportedly said that he had doubts about the reliability of electric cars, although he clarified that he had a positive view of Elon Musk’s EVs, saying, “I like Tesla,” despite the recent rift in the relationship between the president and Mr. Musk. In addition, President Trump said that he prefers combustion engines over electric but added, “If you want to buy electric, you can buy electric.”

Furthermore, in a June 12, 2025, press release, California Attorney General Rob Bonta called President Trump’s resolution “reckless, politically motivated, and illegal,” adding, “The President is busy playing partisan games with lives on the line and yanking away good jobs that would bolster the economy – ignoring that these actions have life or death consequences for California communities breathing dirty, toxic air.”

In addition, Gov. Newsom responded to President Trump’s resolution by calling it an “all-out assault on California,” adding, “This time he’s destroying our clean air and America’s global competitiveness in the process.” The governor added, “We are suing to stop this latest illegal action by a President who is a wholly-owned subsidiary of big polluters.”

Importantly, President Trump is currently in another legal battle with Gov. Newsom and the state of California over the deployment of the National Guard during the anti-ICE riots that broke out in Los Angeles on June 6. In a June 9, 2025, press release announcing the lawsuit, the governor said that the president was “creating fear and terror by failing to adhere to the U.S. Constitution and overstepping his authority.”

Continuing, Gov. Newsom said that the president’s response to the violent riots was “a manufactured crisis to allow him to take over a state militia, damaging the very foundation of our republic.” He added, “Every governor, red or blue, should reject this outrageous overreach. This is beyond incompetence — this is him intentionally causing chaos, terrorizing communities, and endangering the principles of our great democracy. It is an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism. We will not let this stand.”
