WATCH: Tow Truck Drivers in LA Start Intentionally Targeting, Ambushing ICE Agents’ Vehicles during Immigration Raids

ICE agents seem to be getting targeted by rogue tow truck drivers in Los Angeles, who have been caught on camera stealing government vehicles in the middle of immigration enforcement raids, leading one conservative commentator to call the drivers’ actions “next-level insanity” after posting a viral video of them in action.

For background, on July 18, 2025, a post by the Project Constitution account on X went viral, depicting a tow truck taking an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) vehicle away from the site of an active raid. In response to the footage, some X users used the Community Notes feature to dispute the context, but Project Constitution pushed back.

In the viral video, protestors can be seen waving explicit signs and applauding as a tow truck pulls away with an ICE vehicle. Providing context for the footage, Project Constitution wrote, “This is next-level insanity. In Los Angeles, tow truck drivers are now intentionally targeting ICE agents, stalking their vehicles during raids, and towing them mid-operation while agents are detaining illegal immigrants.”

Continuing, the account explained that based on the footage, it was concluded that the tow truck belonged to Airport Towing in Oxnard, California. Project Constitution wrote, “Let’s be clear: this isn’t civil disobedience. This is potential grand theft auto against a federal law enforcement agency.”

However, after the video racked up millions of views online, X users questioned the context; a Community Note was added that reads, “Tow trucks were not ‘stealing’ or targeting ICE vehicles. This vehicle was parked illegally for over an hour and had its tires slashed so needed to be towed away.” The note continues, “The source for this claim is the Satirical X account ‘The Halfway Post.'”

Pushing back, Project Constitution shared an additional video depicting a different ICE vehicle being towed away after it had its tires slashed, differentiating the two clips: “This is the video they are talking about where the tires were slashed. Different video,” the account wrote.

In addition, another X user disputed the claims made in the video and pointed to a Newsweek article published on July 17, 2025. Reporter Thomas Westerholm confirmed that when Newsweek contacted Airport towing, “the company confirmed the white SUV was an ICE vehicle that had been parked illegally on Thursday, July 10.” However, Westerholm wrote, “Claims that ‘a bunch’ of tow truck drivers are working together to counter ICE also appear to be fabricated.”

Importantly, the Department of Homeland Security announced that ICE agents are currently facing an 830% increase in assaults against them, with DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stating, “Brave ICE law enforcement are risking their lives every day to keep our communities safe from the worst of the worst criminals.” She added, “It is reprehensible that our officers are facing this threat while simply doing their jobs and enforcing the law.”
