WATCH: Tom Homan Sounds Off on the Pope for Pushing Open Borders, Argues that Borders Save Lives

Trump Administration Border Czar Tom Homan sounded off on woke Pope Leo XIV when pressed on the matter by the media, noting that he wished the pope would sit down with him instead of former Obama strategist David Axelrod and talk with him to learn about the importance of protecting the border and how doing so keeps people safe.

As background, the pope has said, “When people are living good lives, and many of them for 10, 15, 20 years, to treat them in a way that is extremely disrespectful, to say the least, and there’s been some violence, unfortunately, I think that the bishops have been very clear in what they said. I think that I would just invite all people in the United States to listen to them.”

That is an attitude that Pope Leo XIV has pushed before, and one against which Tom Homan has pushed back before. For example, earlier in this year, Homan was quoted as saying, “If we jumped the wall at the Vatican, the penalties for doing that are much harder than the ones here in the United States, entering the country illegally.”

In any case, in this incident, Border Czar Homan noted that he is a lifelong Catholic but disagrees strongly with the church on this. “I’m a lifelong Catholic. [I’ve been] baptized, [done] First Communion, confirmation. I love the Catholic Church. I just wish they’d stick to fixing the church, because there’s issues I know because I’m a member, instead of politics,” he said.

Continuing, he slammed the three cardinals who appeared on 60 Minutes to attack the Trump Administration on Leo’s behalf, saying, “I mean, I watched the Cardinals get interviewed on 60 Minutes. They don’t understand. They think Trump policies are inhumane and ICE is a rogue agency.”

Adding to that after noting that President Trump has decreased illegal immigration by 97%, Homan described how a closed border makes life better for everybody, saying, “How many women aren’t being r*ped, making that journey by the cartels? How many women and children aren’t being sex trafficked? How many people aren’t dying making that journey?”

He further noted, describing how awful things were during the Biden Administration for border crossers and Americans afflicted by the blight of illegal narcotics, “Over 4000 died during the Biden administration. Historic record, quarter million Americans death and fentanyl. Historic record. Secure border saves lives.”

He then noted that the best thing America can do with the border is secure it, saying, “The secure border’s the most humane thing we can do with an open border. The most vulnerable people in the world are going to give their life savings to the cartels to make that dangerous journey.”

He then noted, describing what he wishes the people in the Vatican could hear him say, “I wish they’d sit down with me and hear my experiences last four years, maybe they understand why a secure border saves lives and secure borders the most humane thing this country can do.”

He further added, “If they wore my shoes for 40 years, and talked to a 9-year-old girl that got r*ped multiple times, or stood in the back of a tractor trailer with 19 dead aliens at my feet, including a 5-year-old boy that baked to death, if they understood the atrocities that happened on the open border, I think their opinion would change.”

Additionally, Mr. Homan said, “I welcome discussion with any of them, because they don’t understand illegal immigration is not a victimless crime,” and, “Human traffickers are out of business, right? The cartels are going bankrupt because of that secure border. I wish they’d understand that. Because if they did, I think they’d have a different opinion.”
