WATCH: “Squad” Democrat Ilhan Omar Attacks America as “One of the Worst Countries”

Rep. Ilhan Omar, a notorious leftist and one of the most controversial members of the so-called “Squad,” said in an interview that the United States is turning into “one of the worst countries,” saying that she views life under the Trump Administration as worse than her childhood in Somalia.

For context, in a June 13, 2025, interview with Nermeen Shaikh and Amy Goodman of Democracy Now!, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) fiercely criticized the use of U.S. troops to quell the violent anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protests that broke out in Los Angeles starting on June 6. In addition, Rep. Omar said that the “image” that was “coming out” of the United States was one of a dictatorship.

During the interview, Rep. Omar said that America was “in the midst of the creation of a police state,” referring to ICE agents as “masked, armed men who are in plainclothes that are snatching people off the streets, unwilling to identify themselves.” She continued, “You have the military being deployed in our streets. My god, this is America. You have states’ rights being disregarded, so, you know, a constitutional crisis that’s being created in front of our eyes.”

Next, the woke congresswoman argued that by deploying U.S. Marines in Los Angeles to aid the National Guard in quelling the riots, President Trump was giving off the impression of being a dictator. Rep. Omar said, “Can you imagine that image that is going to be coming out of our country? I mean, I grew up in a dictatorship, and I don’t even remember ever witnessing anything like that.”

Continuing, Rep. Omar said that as a democracy the United States was “a beacon of hope for the world,” going on to say that the U.S. was now turning “into one of the — you know, one of the worst countries, where the military are in our streets, without any regard for people’s constitutional rights, while our president is spending millions of dollars prompting himself up like a failed dictator with a military parade.”

Moreover, the representative called the perceived transition towards authoritarianism under Trump “shocking,” adding, “It should be a wake-up call for all Americans to say, ‘This is not the country we were born in. This is not the country we believe in. This is not the country our Founding Fathers imagined. And this is not the country that is supported by our Constitution, our ideals, our values.’

In addition, Rep. Omar called for Americans to “collectively be out in the streets” in response to the ICE raids in California, saying that protesting was a means of “rejecting what is taking place this week.” She added that President Trump was “the person who is in the process of destroying our country,” saying that he “should look in the mirror…and notice he is the one that has hatred for the values that we have here in America and everything we have built.”

When the popular End Wokeness X account posted a clip of Rep. Omar’s anti-Trump tirade on June 17, 2025, conservatives sounded off in the comments, calling for the congresswoman’s deportation. The conservative influencer Paul A. Szypula wrote, “Deport Ilhan Omar now. Enough already. The US has a travel ban with Somalia, too, so she can’t come back.” Szypula’s comment received over 1,000 likes.
