A group of protestors gathered outside NYC City to speak out against Zohran Mamdani, a state representative who has come under fire for his radical leftist views, which have been described as Marxist and antisemitic. The gathered protestors held a banner reading “No to Communism” while chanting “We will not comply with Sharia law.”

For background, on July 16, 2025, footage was shared on social media of scores of protestors gathering at NYC  City Hall to condemn the arguably antisemitic views held by New York State Representative Zohran Mamdani, who recently became the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor.

In the footage of the protest at City Hall, the gathered individuals can be seen waving a plethora of flags, including “Gays for Trump” banners, American flags, and hybrid Israeli and USA flags. Moreover, the diverse group of protesters can be heard singing “The Star Spangled Banner” together while holding their hands over their hearts.

Importantly, the protest came just a day after the New York Times reported that Mamdani was pushing back against the use of the inflammatory term “globalize the intifada,” which has been viewed as a call for violence against Jewish people. Mamdani reportedly said in an interview that that term was “not language that I use” but that “I don’t believe that the role of the mayor is to police speech.”

However, the Times reported that in response to the interview with Mamdani, New Yorkers were extremely concerned. “Today’s meeting made it clear to me that I need to do everything in my power to make sure Zohran Mamdani does not become mayor of New York City,” said Jon Henes, the founder of C Street Advisory Group, adding, “His complete lack of executive experience, his naïve understanding of how the world works and his rigidly ideological views, including socialism, would be dangerous for the city’s future.”

Moreover, on July 16, 2025, Fox News reported that Zohran Mamdani’s father, Mahmood, has praised radical anti-Israel activists on social media on multiple occasions. The 79-year-old also reportedly wrote the following on social media regarding Israel: “When all ranks of the Occupation, from the armed settler to the settler state, claim ‘the right of self-defense’, what language is left for those who defend themselves against the Occupation but the right to resist?”

In addition, according to Fox, Mahmood Mamdani, along with Zohran, has been accused of antisemitism by multiple Jewish groups. Brooke Goldstein, a human rights attorney specializing in antisemitism, told Fox, “Zohran Mamdani has built his political brand on the same radical, hate-filled and anti-American ideology his father, Mahmood Mamdani, has spent decades promoting—one that demonizes Jewish people and legitimizes anti-democratic violence.”

Continuing, Goldstein referred to “Jew-hatred the Mamdani family peddles,” calling it “fundamentally anti-American” and arguing that it “violates the core values our country was founded on—tolerance, equality, and liberty.” She concluded, “Our nation’s strength lies in its diversity and commitment to protecting minority rights. Antisemitic world views threaten the peace and security of our communities.”
