Without missing a beat, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich demolished the faulty logic of Judge Boasberg and other federal judges, and revealed the judiciary bias against President Trump. Mr. Gingrich rightfully accused judges of abusing their power in an effort to contradict President Trump’s recent executive orders — and even exposed the judges for trying to use power reserved for the President only.
For context, in a recent House Judiciary Committee hearing, Gingrich gave eloquent testimony based on the 1798 Alien Enemies Act, using this act to support the lawfulness of President Trump’s recent executive orders. Mr. Gingrich focused on the deportation of illegal immigrants, birthright citizenship, and several other key issues that have pitted judges against President Trump.
Mr. Gingrich began his April 1 testimony by drawing attention to the unprecedented seizure of power by fifteen District Judges, including Judge Boasberg. Mr. Gingrich said matter-of-factly, “Fifteen District Judges effectively seized control of various Executive Branch duties in the first six weeks of the current presidency through nationwide injunctions. This is potentially a judicial coup d’etat. It clearly violates the Constitution and more than 200 years of American history.”
Unwilling to back down, Mr. Gingrich continued, “Unelected lower-court judges have been steadily grabbing power for years. It was such an obvious threat that in 2012, Vince Haley and I wrote “Bringing the Court Back under the Constitution.” It is an historic (sic) study which I am submitting for the Record.”
Mr. Gingrich went on to cite Harvard Law Review to back up his assertions. He continued, “There were 96 nationwide injunctions ordered by District Courts from 2001 to 2023. Two-thirds of them (64) were issued during President Trump’s time in office. Furthermore, 92 percent of the injunctions against President Trump were issued by judges appointed by Democratic presidents.”
To drive his point home, Mr. Gingrich highlighted the unprecedented number of injunctions against the current Trump administration — a staggering 15 injunctions since January 20, 2025. Regarding this grab for power, Gingrich said, “The notion that unelected lawyers can micromanage the Executive Branch — and override a Commander in Chief who received 77.3 million votes — should trouble every American.”
Continuing his testimony, Mr. Gingrich remained unrelenting in his indictment of Federal Judges like Boasberg. To prove how unprecedented the judges’ behavior is, Gingrich cited several examples of past presidents who defied the Supreme Court within the bounds of their power. Honing in on specifics, Gingrich said, “President Andrew Jackson was in constant fights with the Supreme Court. President Abraham Lincoln made the Dred Scott decision expanding slavery a centerpiece of his 1858 senatorial campaign.”

Concluding his testimony, Mr. Gingrich made clear recommendations for Congress and President Trump to take steps to curb the abuse of power by federal judges like Boasberg. Drawing on his experience as House Speaker, he recommended that more hearings be held to root out unlawful use of the judiciary branch’s power to defy the President. Throughout his testimony, Mr. Gingrich used only historical facts and examples from federal law to demolish the faulty logic and power-grabbing tactics of judges like Boasberg.
