On Tuesday, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) gave a live reaction to Vice President Kamala Harris’ decision to select Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate in the 2024 race. Pelosi claimed the move was a “wonderful” decision, sharply contrasting the conservative criticism that Walz is a far-left leader who would be detrimental to the country alongside Harris leading the executive branch.
During a live reaction on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Pelosi praised Walz as a “right down the middle” Democrat. “Tim Walz is wonderful. She had many good choices. Tim Walz I know very well. He served in the House. To characterize him as left is so unreal. It’s just not, he’s right down the middle. He’s a heartland of America Democrat,” she said.
Nancy further expressed her confidence in Walz appearing on the ticket with Harris. “Really it’s mystifying to me to see someone that I worked with, shall we say right down the middle, characterized on the left in this regard. He has her confidence, obviously. That was the decision that the presidential nominee, soon-to-be president of the United States, has made. I respect her decision. I respect all the rest,” Pelosi continued.
The high-ranking California Democrat claimed that Walz has a “vision” for the United States that will represent various Americans. “He has a great vision for our country. It’s about working-class families, about rural America, about our veterans. He has won for governor two times in Minnesota. Reverend [Al] Sharpton talked about his decision in terms of the George Floyd, such a sad situation. And obviously, we respect the judgment of our nominee for president. Her comfort level is our comfort level,” she added.
Walz recently made headlines for attacking his Republican challengers, former President Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance. “These guys are just weird,” Walz said during a recent campaign event. Walz also claimed that the Democrats are up against “fascists.” He added, “The fascists depend on us going back, but we’re not afraid of weird people. We’re a little bit creeped out, but we’re not afraid.”
Serving as a talking point for conservatives to criticize his far-left politics, Walz also recently told leftists to embrace their “progressive values.” During a recent call, he said, “Don’t ever shy away from our progressive values. One person’s socialism is another person’s neighborliness.”
Former President Barrack Obama recently made headlines for his public statement on Harris selecting Walz as her vice presidential candidate, where he also took a subtle shot at JD Vance. “When a presidential candidate chooses a running mate, it says a lot about who they are and what kind of president they’ll be. Do they pick someone inexperienced and polarizing who will deepen our divisions? Or do they pick someone with the judgment to make tough decisions, and the character to believe that every voice counts and everyone deserves an equal chance?” Obama said. “By selecting Tim Walz to be her vice president from a pool of outstanding Democrats, Kamala Harris has chosen an ideal partner — and made it clear exactly what she stands for.”
