After President Biden’s bombshell announcement that he would drop out of the 2024 race and subsequent endorsement of Kamala Harris, public attention has been shifted to the vice president’s policy positions. Reports suggest that Harris once voiced her support for the “Abolish ICE” movement to end Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The “Abolish ICE” movement, which seeks to eliminate the agency tasked with detaining and importing those who illegally enter the United States, began a staple of the Democratic Party during the Trump administration. As illegal immigration has skyrocketed in the United States under Biden’s presidency, the implications of Kamala endorsing such a position are profound.
In June 2018, then-Senator Kamala Harris was asked about her position on “Abolish ICE.” MSNBC reporter Kasie Hunt asked Harris, “A lot of the signs at the rally you just held were people standing there saying, ‘Abolish ICE.’ Is that a position that you agree with?” Harris responded that ICE was due for a reevaluation.
“Listen, I think there’s no question that we’ve got to critically reexamine ICE and its role and the way that it is being administered and the work it is doing, and we need to probably think about starting from scratch because there’s a lot that is wrong with the way that it is conducting itself, and we need to deal with that,” Harris told Hunt.
According to a report from Breitbart News, if ICE had been abolished at the time of the Kamala Harris interview in 2018, there would be nearly 1.4 million illegal immigrants released into the American interior instead of being arrested and deported from the United States. However, the Biden administration has received much criticism for its record with illegal immigration that some suggest it is intentionally abolishing ICE.
Reportedly, there were more than 3.2 million encounters with illegal immigrants at U.S. borders in Fiscal Year 2023, while less than 143,000 illegal immigrants were deported in the same timeframe. According to these statistics, illegal immigrants who arrived in the United States during this period would have less than a five percent chance of actually being deported for unlawfully entering the country.
The National Immigration Center for Enforcement uploaded the resurfaced footage on X, writing in the caption, “Since Joe Biden’s first day in office, we have witnessed the devastating harm wrought by his unrelenting effort to dismantle interior immigration enforcement. Kamala Harris wants to go a step further and actually ABOLISH ICE.”

In other news regarding Kamala Harris, The American Tribune reported on Wednesday that Rep. Andy Ogles had introduced Articles of Impeachment against the vice president. The move accuses Harris of high crimes and misdemeanors related to her failure to uphold the Constitution in her handling of the border crisis as vice president.
In the letter introducing the Articles of Impeachment, Ogles stated, “Kamala Harris has demonstrated extraordinary incompetence in the execution of her duties and responsibilities, a stark refusal to uphold the existing immigration laws, and a palpable indifference to people of the United States suffering as a result of the ongoing southern border crisis in the United States.”
