President Trump’s granddaughter Kai took the internet by storm with an epic Independence Day post in which she donned a red, white, and blue cowboy hat and danced to an iconic Lana Del Rey song, leading one commentator to say that “being a powerhouse runs in the family.”
For background, on July 4, 2025, Kai Trump, the 18-year-old daughter of Donald Trump Jr., showed off her moves in a video in which she danced to “National Anthem” by Lana Del Rey, a sultry song with lyrics about the American dream and living a romantic, adventurous life.
Responding to Kai’s dance online, conservatives praised her for her impeccable style and song choice, with one user commenting, “I never liked this song until like a month ago and have been obsessed lately. Convinced I’m the reason everyone is posting it.” Another user described her as an “American angel,” and another noted that if Kai became the president one day, “people will fall in love with politics.”
Kai, 18, is best known for her speech at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, in which she famously described President Trump as “just a normal grandpa,” saying, “He gives us candy and soda when we’re not looking. He always wants to know how we’re doing in school.”
In addition, during her speech, Kai told the crowd that when she achieved the high honor roll in school, the president “printed it out to show his friends how proud he was of me.” When the crowd cheered, she responded, “I know.” She added, “He calls me in the middle of the school day to ask how my golf game is going and tells me all about his, but then I have to remind him that I’m in school, and I’ll have to call him back later.”
Continuing, Kai explained that when she did play golf with the president, if she wasn’t on his team, “he’ll try to get inside of my head.” She added, “And he’s always surprised that I don’t let him get to me. But I have to remind him, I’m a Trump too.” Moreover, she said that even though the president was “going through all these court cases” at the time, he “always asks me how I’m doing” and “always encourages me to push myself to be the most successful person I can be.”
Furthermore, Kai said that President Trump “obviously…sets the bar pretty high” in terms of achievement, but added, “But who knows? Maybe one day I’ll catch him.” She went on to say that when she learned that an attempt had been made on her grandfather’s life, she “just wanted to know if he was okay,” adding, “It was heartbreaking that someone would do that to another person.”

In a heartfelt moment in her speech, Kai said that the media makes her grandfather “seem like a different person,” adding, “But I know him for who he is. He’s very caring and loving, he truly wants what’s best for this country, and he will fight every single day to make America great again.”
