A young, smug attempted cop killer got the grin wiped off his face when a judge informed him he was going to be held in prison on a total of $3,250,000 in bonds for three counts of attempted capital murder of a police officer, one count of aggravated robbery, and one count of resisting arrest.

For context, Enrique Martin Ayala, an 18-year-old resident of San Juan, Puerto Rico, was indicted on February 20, 2025, after he was accused of stabbing three San Juan police officers, Anthony Soto, Matthew Martinez, Anthony Meza, and a bystander named Anthony Barron on December 5, 2024. According to press accounts, the three police officers had responded to a call from Ayala’s mother, who said that her son had forcefully pushed her after she confiscated and destroyed his drug paraphernalia.

In addition, the news outlet MyRGV confirmed that the three police officers attempted to arrest Ayala when they arrived at his home at around 7 p.m. However, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by MyRGV, Ayala pulled out a knife and started stabbing the police officers. Furthermore, the affidavit explained that “after a short struggle, the defendant was placed in handcuffs and transported to the San Juan Freestanding for medical treatment.”

Moreover, according to coverage from KRGV News, the local community was shocked at Ayala’s crimes, with Chula Vista Drive resident Zenona Pruneda saying, “Here in the colonia, it’s quiet, something like last night has never happened.” She added, “I was scared because God knows what was waiting for us.”

Furthermore, Pruneda explained that one of the police officers who caught Ayala was her grandson, saying, “I am proud of him and the others who caught the boy.” Press accounts confirmed that two out of the three officers whom Ayala stabbed are now out of the hospital, to which Pruneda responded, “We are praying for them and asking God they will be OK.”

Along with local residents, San Juan Police Chief Leandro Sifuentes commented on the situation, saying that when the officers arrived at Ayala’s home, the suspect “slipped out of their grip,” adding that the three policemen “did get seriously injured, they were heavily bleeding.”

In addition, Sifuentes said that the incident was the first time in almost 100 years that a police officer was seriously injured on the job in San Juan, adding, “The officers are human beings, they bleed the same blood that you and I bleed, they are just doing their job.”

After his indictment, a video of Ayala’s hearing went viral on X. It depicts the young criminal smirking and behaving belligerently in the courtroom, pleading “no contest” multiple times before being told that he was being charged with three counts of attempted capital murder of a police officer, each of which came with a bond of $1 million. The uploader, who goes by Trumpaswami Tsunami on X, wrote, “Watch this Piece of Crap ATTEMPTED COP KILLER’S smile Fade Away as the Judge Shows him how Horrible his Crime Really Was!!”
