WATCH: Jim Jordan and Newt Gingrich Expose Rogue, Woke Judges in Front of Congress

Rep. Jim Jordan and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich exposed rogue, woke judges like Judge Boasberg during a tense congressional hearing, with Gingrich calling for the chief justice to intervene and saying that Judge Boasberg had a “blatant, continuing record of prejudice” against President Trump and his administration.”

For background, during a House Judiciary Committee Hearing on April 1, 2025, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) asked former House Speaker Newt Gingrich to weigh in on the case of Judge James Boasberg, who has come under fire for using federal injunctions in an attempt to limit the Trump Administration’s deportation of illegal immigrants. Gingrich took the opportunity to call on the Chief Justice of the United States, John Roberts, to remove Judge Boasberg from office for his conduct.

During the hearing, Rep. Jordan asked Judge Boasberg if he should bar himself from future cases related to the Trump Administration after he ordered a plane transporting illegal immigrants out of the country to be turned around. In response, Gingrich said, “I think this is a classic case where the Chief Justice should intervene.”

Moreover, Gingrich said that Judge Boasberg has “a blatant,  continuing record of prejudice,” adding, “That judge should not be put in charge of a case.” However, Gingrich clarified that he was not supportive of impeaching Judge Boasberg, saying, “I’m not for going through the whole process of impeachment, because I think it’s, at a practical level, not possible.”

However, Gingrich said that instead of impeachment, Congress should “simply defund,” adding that Thomas Jefferson took this action, which he said “clearly is possible.” He continued, “But I think this, what you just described, is illustrative of why I use the term coup d’etat.”

Building on his point, Gingrich described rogue activist judges like Boasberg as “a small group of people who believe that they have the right to…rejecting the American people and doing whatever they want and cooperating with people who clearly were behaving illegally.” He added, “I mean, that’s one of the great tragedies of the last six or eight years, is it’s the government which has been illegal, it’s the FBI which was illegal.”

In addition, Gingrich said that getting the chief justice involved in dealing with Judge Boasberg would send the message that he “had better get out of lecturing the Congress and get into managing the judiciary, or he’s going to be facing a real crisis of the system and a real erosion of judicial authority.”

In response to Gingrich’s statements, Rep. Jordan argued that Congress had “three avenues to address this,” saying, “We can do legislative, which we’re going to do tomorrow.” He later added, “Second, we have oversight, which is what we’re doing now.” Finally, he said, “And third, what you pointed out is we got the appropriations process, the ultimate power we have.” He added, “We should use it.”
