First Lady Melania Trump, a known polyglot, was recently seen interacting with victims of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, speaking to people in her native language of Slovenian. The clip has since gone viral on social media, where users praised Melania for her sweet and caring demeanor toward those who have lost everything.
In the video, Melania can be seen speaking with locals alongside President Donald Trump. A debate ensued on social media over what Slavic languages were being spoken, with some claiming the woman introduced herself in Serbian. Commentators added that the woman spoke to the first lady about her family, mixing Serbian and Slovenian.
The popular X account FLOTUS report shared the footage, writing, “Melania Trump just had a very sweet moment with a lady from California who has been devastated by the fires Can anyone tell what language they are speaking or what they are saying?” Comments poured in where users marveled at Melania’s kind heart and impressive linguistic abilities, where she reportedly speaks six languages.
One person wrote, “The native language of Melania is Slovenian. Therefore, I would think they speak Slovenian. It isn’t Russian even if you can hear ‘da’. I assume that ‘da’ is part of Slovenian language.” Another person familiar with foreign languages said, “It is Slovenian, they both say Dober dan, which is hello in Slovene.”
Another person applauded Melania for taking time to visit the struggling victims of the wildfires. “Aww~ It’s heartwarming and beautiful that FLOTUS shows her love, especially in this tragic time. We are all family~
loving family, and that takes place in the home. Our CA Politicians have failed our families miserably. WE NEED WATER,” they said.
The American Tribune reported on the press conference Trump and Melania attended in California, where the president slammed the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for failing to help Americans. Trump also called out California leaders to their face, alleging their governance contributed to the disaster and its subsequent consequences.
Speaking to Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA), Trump said, “The problem with FEMA is they come from all over the country. They end up in arguments with your people from California because they want to do it a totally different way.” Pointing to Hurricane Helene in North Carolina, Trump added, “You haven’t gotten very much done with FEMA because and all you have to do is look at North Carolina. It’s one of the great disasters of all time.”

“Getting the people is not a problem. Getting the organization’s a big problem. FEMA is incompetently run, and it costs about three times more than it should cost,” Trump said. “We can spend money on schools instead of giving money to bureaucracy. It takes you so much longer.”
