WATCH: GOP Congressman Exposes How “Soros-Backed Groups” are Lying about Fraud to Discredit DOGE

Speaking in a video posted to X (formerly Twitter) in late February of 2025, Congressman Tim Burchett R-TN), who rose to prominence in early March for arguing that the fraud in DC is so severe that members of Congress could be thrown in jail, argued that there are groups backed by leftist financier George Soros who are trying to discredit DOGE by lying about it.

Burchett’s comments on the matter came as the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) digs into fraud, waste, and abuse in the entitlement programs, particularly Social Security, which DOGE head Elon Musk has argued is stricken with huge amounts of fraud, such as impossibly old people who are draining it.

As could be predicted, the left has freaked out about that and started lying about what Elon plans to do. Namely, outlets such as Bloomberg have falsely claimed that he wants to cut Social Security benefits, whereas in reality, he has shown that he wants to cut the fraud that is draining Social Security so that the program can survive.

In any case, Rep. Burchett, commenting on the matter in his video, which he appeared to have filmed himself outside the United States Capitol, noted that the powers that be are trying to scare Americans into not supporting DOGE, which is highly popular. He said, “They’re putting out that, Republicans are cutting Medicare, Republicans are cutting Medicaid, and all they’re doing is trying to scare you.”

Continuing, Rep. Burchett alleged that the Soros-connected groups are pushing false information for that reason, using everything from news to agitators. He said, “They’ve got these Soros-backed groups that are pushing this stuff out. You’ve got some paid agitators, of course, that are spreading this message, and the news—all over state, local, and national news—is running with it.”

He then emphasized that the claims they are pushing about what DOGE will allegedly do to entitlement programs is a total lie and that, in reality, DOGE will free money in those programs up for those who need it by eliminating the fraud that is currently leaching money from them. He said, “It is just a lie. All we’re trying to do is cut out the waste, fraud, and abuse, and that will free up, I believe, more dollars for the folks who need it.”

Further, he suggested why they might be pushing those lies, indicating that he thinks those groups or their backers are raking in money from the fraud, the waste, and the abuse that they are freaking out about Elon cutting. He said, “The people behind the misinformation obviously have a dog in this fight, and that dog is—they’re getting rich off of it.”

Concluding, the congressman argued that the money from all the programs should be going to those who are in need, those who the programs are meant to help, not to the corrupt groups that are currently squabbling in an attempt to keep the money. He said, “That money should be going to folks in need, and they are fighting to keep it for themselves.”
