Speaking during a Monday, March 10 interview on Fox Business, Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) argued that the fraud seen from many members of Congress is so severe that he thinks some of his fellow members of Congress are guilty of crimes and should go to prison for the fraud they have committed. Those comments came as the Congressman argued that the freakout over Musk shows he is over the target.
As background, Mr. Musk’s comments on what the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which he leads, has found as it pokes and prods into federal spending in an attempt to find the fraud, waste, and abuse that most Americans think is certainly there. Particularly, Elon has been sounding off on fraud in the Social Security program, such as the “vampires” that are drawing checks despite obviously being long dead.
Mr. Burchett, speaking about that scandal and Mr. Musk’s work with DOGE generally during his Fox Business appearance on the 10th, argued that the freakout over DOGE that has come from many in the Establishment shows that he is directly over the target and needs to keep fighting to eradicate the fraud.
Speaking on that matter, Re. Burchett said that the “graft” that has long been tolerated is under attack, which is why the left is panicking, particularly as Elon follows the federal budget paper trail. He said, “All you’re seeing right now is the graft, and that’s why the left is pitching such a fit because Elon Musk, very bravely, has stated there is a paper trail, and it will lead us to where this is.”
Continuing, Rep. Burchett added that there has been a vast amount of waste and fraud that has been funded by American taxpayers, with some of the money even flowing into political campaigns. He said, “You know good and well that that stuff’s going to go right out of the American taxpayer’s back pocket, right into the pockets of politicians, and in the past we’ve seen it go into campaigns.”
And that’s when he got to his big bombshell, which was that he sees some of his fellow members of Congress as being so corrupt that they should go to jail. He said, “That’s been documented through some other funding sources, but now I think you’re going to see some people should go to jail and possibly members of Congress.”
Commenting on the interview on X (formerly Twitter), conservative poster Gunther Eagleman posted the clip of Rep. Burchett and said, “🚨Tim Burchett just laid out how Elon Musk is over the target right now and calls for people to go to jail over what DOGE is uncovering, including members of Congress.” Watch him here:

Commenters on the post largely agreed. One, for example, said, “We’ve been getting ripped off for decades by these career politicians and it’s time for it to stop. Serious jail time sounds like a great idea for those who have stolen public funds. As they all like to say when it benefits them, ‘No one is above the law’…”
On much the same note, another commenter said, “Investigate, prosecute if evidence exists, recover as much money as possible from those convicted. Then put the guilty parties in jail for a long time as an example to current and future fraudsters (congress critters, their staff, federal employees – any any others I missed). If there’s no jail time for fraud, fraud will continue.”
