In the latest example of Trump Derangement Syndrome leading to absolute absurdity, former MSNBC personality Keith Olbermann, known for his unhinged takes, particularly about former President Donald Trump, went on the attack against the Cardinals baseball franchise in a since-deleted tweet over what he alleged was a Trump-inspired celebration on the field.
As background, the incident inspiring the outrage from Olbermann occurred the weekend before his unhinged take, when St. Louis Cardinals designated hitter Alec Burleson hit a long home run when playing against the Atlanta Braves. After the home run, he and his teammates in the dugout put one hand over their right ears and their fists in the air, which some thought to be in mimicry of Trump’s actions upon being shot in Butler, PA, during his rally.
A community note on X (formerly Twitter) noted that the celebration was more likely to be an inside joke regarding Burleson’s past as a DJ. It said, “Per numerous players on the team, Burleson was a rapper/DJ in college. It is an inside joke and is mimicking a DJ. They have been doing this since the first half of the season.”

Olbermann, who went on the attack against the Cardinals in a tweet that has since been deleted, wrote, “Attn @mlb ban these guys from baseball for life, confiscate the @Cardinals franchise, and implode the stadium Cardinals = Trump Nazis. Stick to sports FUCK THE ST. LOUIS CARDINALS. America has had enough of this shit.” Check out a screenshot of the tweet here:
This isn’t the first time Olbermann has gotten in a fight over a sports star. He also got in a spat with Aaron Rodgers. That came when Greg Kelly, a conservative talk show host on Newsmax, tried to blame an injury of Rodger’s on his well-publicized use of ayahuasca. Kelly said: “I totally saw this coming. This was going to be a disaster. Something happened to this guy, he got involved in psychedelics. It’s not good and he took it and he encouraged others to do the same. … Lay off that tea.”
Later, formerly respected ESPN sports anchor turned unhinged leftist Keith Olbermann chimed in, saying: “Another #SuddenLisfranc due to failure to vaccinate.” On “The Pat McAfee Show,” making his first appearance since the injury, when McAfee mentioned the “jab” made by Olbermann, Rodgers simply replied: “Get your fifth booster, Keith,” to which he followed up with a single word reply, “bum.”
Olbermann also got in a fight with Riley Gaines. He tweeted, “Second team all-conference. Happily for nasty, stupid, unsuccessful transphobe @Riley_Gaines_ she has no reputation to ruin Anyhoo, don’t forget to listen to the Countdown podcast because Trump also sucks:” He was torched by a fact-check community note in response. It said, “Riley Gaines was a very successful swimmer ending her College ‘Wildcat’ career as one of the most decorated swimmers in the program’s history. She played an instrumental role in the Wildcats clinching their first ever conference championship title, in 2021.”
