Former President Donald Trump set records with his 93-minute nomination acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on the night of Thursday, July 18. Coming alongside President Biden’s various issues and the recent, heart-wrenching assassination attempt on him, the energy at the RNC was wild, as even CNN’s Van Jones admitted.
That comment came during CNN’s RNC coverage on Thursday. During that constant coverage, CNN Senior Political Commentator and former Obama Adviser Van Jones argued that this RNC was different, as he hadn’t been at a convention with such energy since the 2008 Democratic National Convention that nominated President Barack Obama.
Van Jone’s comment came after CNN Senior Political Commentator and former Bush official Scott Jennings commenting positively on the convention and joked about things like the appearance of Hulk Hogan at it. Jone, responding, remarked, “I want to say something, this spirit that this guy has, you guys think it’s because he’s drunk. He’s not. This whole thing is like this. … Hey, guys, the last time I was in a convention that felt like this was Obama 2008. There’s just — there’s something happening where –.”
Jennings, for his part, noted also that Trump is acting somewhat like Obama in his ability to bring new voters to the party, saying, “And just like Obama, Trump is showing at this convention, he has the capacity to alter the composition of the electorate. Former Obama Advisor and Democrat strategist David Axelrod pushed back somewhat, saying that the “difference between 2008 and now is that Obama was actually popular outside of his own party.”
Watch them here:
Trump, during his magnificent speech, praised his two sons, Don Jr. and Eric, who also gave speeches, saying, “They went through so much trouble. They got subpoenaed more than any people probably in the history of the United States. Every week, they got another subpoena from the Democrats, Crazy Nancy Pelosi, the whole thing, just boom, boom, boom. They gotta stop that because they’re destroying our country. We have to work on making America great again, not on beating people.”
He also mocked CBS News’ “Face the Nation,” saying, “I watched the other day on a show called ‘Deface the Nation,’ has anyone seen that?” Continuing with his comments about the woke program, he said, “And they had a congressman who was a Democrat say, ‘Well, whether you like him or not, Iran was broke dealing with Trump.’”
He added, commenting on the 2020 election and one of its very unideal results, the Iran situation, “Iran was gonna make a deal with us, and then we had that horrible, horrible result that we’ll never let happen again. The election result, we’re not gonna let that happen again. They used Covid to cheat. We’re never gonna let it happen again.”
Then, obliterating the Biden Administration, he said, “The damage that this administration has done, and I say it often, if you took the ten worst presidents in the history of the United States, think of it, the ten worst, added them up, they will not have done the damage that Biden has done. Only gonna use the term once, Biden. I’m not gonna use the name anymore, just one time. The damage that he’s done to this country is unthinkable. It’s unthinkable.”
