The crowd at MetLife Stadium erupted into cheers as President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump flew overhead in Marine One, the presidential helicopter, before taking their seats next to FIFA president Gianni Infantino and his wife to watch the FIFA Club World Cup final on the one-year anniversary of the attempt on the president’s life.

For background, Donald and Melania did an epic flyover at MetLife Stadium on July 13, 2025, before descending to attend the FIFA Club World Cup Final, sitting alongside U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, and even Tom Brady, along with FIFA president Gianni Infantino and his wife, Lenna Al Ashqar.

In addition, after watching the match, President Trump presented the winners, Chelsea FC, with their trophy, commemorating their victory over Paris Saint-Germain. Moreover, according to press accounts, the president and first lady traveled from their golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, to East Rutherford, the location of the MetLife Stadium.

Importantly, the president and first lady’s appearance at the FIFA Final fell on the one-year anniversary of the attempt on President Trump’s life in Butler, Pennsylvania, which the president reflected on in a statement, saying, “An assassin’s bullet came within a quarter inch of ending my life and silencing our movement to restore American greatness. Yet, by the hand of providence and the grace of Almighty God, my life was spared.”

Continuing, President Trump honored Corey Comperatore, a firefighter and veteran who lost his life at Butler at the hands of the shooter. The president wrote, “When gunfire erupted, Corey did not hesitate to protect his wife and two daughters. He died a hero, and we are eternally grateful for his inspiring love, valor, and faithfulness.”

Moreover, the president appeared on his daughter-in-law Lara Trump’s show, “My View,” to reflect on the assassination on July 12, 2025, saying, “Well, it was unforgettable.” He added, “I didn’t know exactly what was going on. I got whacked. There’s no question about that. And fortunately, I got down quickly. People were screaming, and I got down quickly, fortunately, because I think they shot eight bullets.”

Additionally, during his interview with Lara, President Trump praised the Secret Service sniper who killed Thomas Crooks, the would-be assassin at Butler. He said,”He really did a fantastic, his name is David, and he did a fantastic job.” He added, “He got him perfectly. From a very long distance, so we got a little bit lucky in that regard.”
