According to a recent report from CNN, many Democrats are “pissed off” that members of his party adamantly pressured President Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. Former South Carolina state lawmaker and CNN analyst Bakari Sellers claimed that many liberal voters are “pissed off” by the move where they blame party leadership for the decision to step down.
For years, conservatives have continually raised concerns about Biden’s mental and physical health amid signs of decline. Democrats defended these claims throughout Biden’s presidency, but after the debate against former President Donald Trump last month, many lost faith in the incumbent president’s ability to defeat Trump and serve another term.
During an interview on the Sunday broadcast of “CNN Newsroom,” Sellers noted that he had received a barrage of messages from irate Democrats, angry that Biden was “pushed out of the door.” He explained, “My phone is blowing up with people who are pissed off and the reason they‘re pissed off, is because they feel like people from on high pushed Joe Biden out the door.”
The CNN analyst noted that some are worried that Vice President Kamala Harris might also be excluded from the ticket. “A text that I just got from a friend was like, ‘if they pushed Joe Biden out the door. what are they going to do with Kamala Harris?'” He added that it would be wise for high-ranking Democrats to embrace Kamala Harris as their candidate.
Sellers continued, “They will probably try to push her too. There‘s a great deal of fear out there and the people who‘ve done the damage, the Nancy Pelosis, the Chuck Schumers those ’elders’ in leadership. It would behoove us all if they came out and wrap their arms around Kamala Harris sooner rather than later.” He stated, “And probably save those celebratory mimosas for another day…”
The American Tribune initially reported on the breaking news that President Biden would withdraw from the 2024 race. Biden posted on X, “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term. I will speak to the Nation later this week in more detail about my decision,” Biden noted in a separate statement.
