Sen. John Kennedy destroyed former FBI Director James Comey and former CIA Director John Brennan in a brutal interview with Fox News, torching the pair after it was revealed by a CIA report that they had used blatant misinformation to target President Trump prior to his first term.
For background, during a July 10, 2025, interview with Fox News, Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA), who is best known for his wry, witty sense of humor, ripped into James Comey and John Brennan, the respective former heads of the FBI and CIA, after it was announced that both former officials were facing criminal investigations over their now-discredited investigations into President Trump.
Speaking on Fox News, Sen. Kennedy blasted Comey and Brennan for their incompetence, saying, “They’re about as popular as male-pattern baldness.” He added, “I would hire the guy who salts the fries at McDonald’s before I would hire either one of them, but they think they’re competent.”
The senator continued his brutal roast of Comey and Brennan, saying, “Neither one of them, in my opinion, should attempt more than six of the Ten Commandments.” He concluded, “They’re not very nice people. They’re not ethical.” In response to the senator’s statements, Facebook commenters called him “hilarious” and a “national treasure.”
Importantly, Sen. Kennedy’s comments on the two former officials came shortly after the FBI announced that both Comey and Brennan are under criminal investigation for their debunked probe into President Trump’s relationship with Russia prior to the 2016 presidential election. Writing on X on July 2, 2025, CIA Director John Ratcliffe explained that he had been entrusted with helping to “end weaponization of US intelligence,” referring to Comey and Brennan’s work.
Continuing, Director Ratcliffe explained that the CIA had conducted a thorough review of the Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA), the report released by Comey and Brennan on “Russia’s Influence Campaign Targeting the 2016 US Presidential Election.” The director explained that the assessment “was conducted through an atypical & corrupt process under the politically charged environments of former Dir. Brennan & former FBI Dir. Comey.”
In addition, the CIA’s review of Comey and Brennan’s investigation into President Trump concluded that the “Steele Dossier,” an explicitly anti-Trump document that was used as evidence in the ICA, was highly politicized and full of issues. The CIA reported, “When confronted with specific flaws in the Dossier by the two mission center leaders—one with extensive operational experience and the other with a strong analytic background—he appeared more swayed by the Dossier’s general conformity with existing theories than by legitimate tradecraft concerns.”

Furthermore, the CIA said that the issues with the Steele Dossier led to “departures from standard practices in the drafting, coordination, and reviewing of the ICA,” adding that the ICA contained “multiple procedural anomalies” that made it unreliable, including “a highly compressed production timeline, stringent compartmentation, and excessive involvement of agency heads.”
