President Donald Trump got tens of thousands of likes on Truth Social when he announced that his recently introduced tariffs could lead to substantial reductions in income taxes for American workers earning less than $200,000 a year, leading conservatives to celebrate online.
For context, in a post shared on Truth Social on the morning of April 27, 2025, President Trump strongly defended his tariff strategy, describing it as laying the foundation for the creation of countless new jobs. In addition, the president emphasized the positive impact that the tariffs will have on income tax, specifically for Americans who would be described as upper-middle-class and below.
In addition, the White House has been adamant about the potential benefits of tariffs for the U.S. economy. In a fact sheet released on April 2, 2025, White House representatives asserted that “a global tariff of 10% would grow the economy by $728 billion, create 2.8 million jobs, and increase real household incomes by 5.7%.” The fact sheet added, “The United States will no longer put itself last on matters of international trade in exchange for empty promises.”
In his Truth Social post, President Trump began by saying that income taxes would drop for many people when “tariffs cut in,” adding, “Focus will be on people making less than $200,000 a year. Also, massive numbers of jobs are already being created, with new plants and factories currently being built and planned.”
Moving on, the president said that the introduction of the tariffs would be “a BONANZA FOR AMERICA!!!”, making it clear that he is adamant about the economic benefits of the tariffs, despite the reported criticism they have attracted from the left. He went on to say, “THE EXTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE IS HAPPENING!!!”
President Trump’s recent Truth Social post came after he told the press that he was planning on reducing the 145% tariff on goods from China on April 22, 2025. According to press accounts, the president said that the tariff would come down “substantially,” adding, “145% is very high and it won’t be that high. It’s not going to be that high.”
Additionally, President Trump expressed optimism about the effect that the new tariffs would have on foreign relations, specifically with China. He told Fox News, “We’re going to be very good to China. I have a great relationship with [Chinese President Xi Jinping].” However, the president also expressed that he believed that China was previously taking advantage of its trade relationship with the U.S. He reportedly said, “China was taking us for a ride.”
