Rumors were recently swirling that Trump was planning a 2024 presidential race announcement as early as this month, perhaps as soon as the day after his daughter Tiffany’s mid-November wedding.
However, as such rumors have swirled before and not come to pass, it wasn’t clear how accurate those were.
Now, based on what Trump said during his Ohio rally last night, it looks like the rumors are true and Trump is not just planning on running in 2024, but will announce it next Tuesday. Hinting strongly at that during the rally, Trump said:
“Two years ago we were a great nation, and we will be a great nation again. Not to detract from tomorrow’s very important even critical election… I’m going to be making a very big announcement on Tuesday Nov. 15 at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach.”
Trump also posted about that on Truth Social, saying “I am going to be making a very big announcement on Tuesday, November 15th at Mar a Lago—in Palm Beach, Florida!”
During the rally, Trump backed off of his recent “Governor DeSanctimonious” attack on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, instead calling on Republicans to vote for DeSantis come Tuesday.
Trump also sounded off on the current state of the economy and availability of goods, saying:
“Inflation should have never happened. Forget about buying a turkey for Thanksgiving. Has anybody bought a turkey yet for Thanksgiving? Because if you haven’t, don’t even waste your time.”
“Number one, you probably won’t get it. And if you do, you’re going to pay approximately three times for than you did.”
And, drawing attention to the border crisis and contrasting the Biden Administration’s lack of focus on border control and laser focus on squeezing every last drop of taxes out of the American taxpayer, saying:
“Under the radical left Democrats the streets of our cities are ruled by bloodthirsty gangs and violent criminals.”
“Instead of doubling the number of IRS agents, we should double the number of ICE and Border Patrol agents.”
Later, he posted a quote of his from the rally on Truth Social, one that shows both his desire for a red wave and intent on retaking the White House. He said:
This is the year we’re going to take back the House, we’re going to take back the Senate, and take back America—and in 2024, most importantly, we are going to take back our magnificent White House!
Most Republicans wanted Trump to wait until after midterms to announce his 2024 run so as to not detract from the red wave by making already close and contentious elections a referendum on Trump. He appears to have managed to do so so far, though seems ready to announce now that midterms will be wrapped up on Tuesday and the red wave hasn’t petered out as looked like could happen over the summer.
Further, Trump’s timetable for announcing could have been moved up by it looking increasingly possible that DeSantis could try to displace him and run.
