New York Attorney General Letitia James got humiliated by conservatives after she went berserk in response to an ongoing federal investigation of her alleged mortgage fraud, with commenters on social media dismissing the attorney general as a “total phony” and accusing her of “pretending” to care about her constituents in response to the charges she may face.
For background, on May 18, 2025, FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that his agency had commenced an official investigation into potential mortgage fraud committed by Attorney General Letitia James of New York. Moreover, during a berserk speech prior to the official announcement of the investigation, the attorney general told her constituents that she had been elected “to continue to challenge” the Trump Administration, a claim that was met with cheers from the crowd.
According to press accounts, AG James is being investigated by the FBI based on allegations that she committed fraud on a mortgage application by listing a property in Virginia as her primary residence, a decision that would have the potential to disqualify her from holding office in the state of New York. Importantly, Federal Housing Finance Authority Director Bill Pulte previously sent a letter to the Justice Department referring the attorney general for prosecution.
Moreover, FBI Director Kash Patel told CNN that while he could not share significant details about the investigation into AG James’ alleged mortgage fraud, the case “is being handled by our professional pros who are subject matter experts, reporting directly to headquarters, which reports to (Deputy Director Dan Bongino) and I.”
On the other hand, Abbe Lowell, a lawyer representing the attorney general, told CNN that there were “insignificant mistakes” in financial records from James’ past. In addition, Lowell, who previously represented Hunter Biden, said, “Look at the entire file of each event, the haste in which one document has one line filled out in error, and the clear fact that, with the exception of attending school, Attorney General James has only lived in Brooklyn.”
In response to the accusations against her and the ongoing federal probe, the attorney general said that she would not stand “idly by and allow this craziness to happen,” adding, “You can come after me if you want, but you elected me to stand up. You elected me to use the law.” Starting to scream wildly, the attorney general said, “You elected me to go to court. You elected me to challenge this administration.”
In addition, AG James claimed that her constituents had elected her to “stand up for the least of God’s children,” adding, “You elected me to continue fighting, and I will fight on.” Sharing a clip of the attorney general’s speech on X, political commenter Joel Gilbert utterly roasted her, calling her a “total phony.”

Continuing, Gilbert called out James for pretending to be a “civil rights leader” or “black preacher,” adding, “She is just pretending since she is feeling the heat under FBI investigation.” Another commenter added, “How can Leticia James say the Mortgage Fraud is false accusations??? They are Signed Documents with a Notary!!!”
