“The ActBlue House of Cards is Collapsing”: DOJ Launches Criminal Investigation of Major Money Laundering and Fraud at Key Democrat Fundraiser

In a massive victory for the GOP, the Department of Justice has officially launched a criminal investigation into ActBlue, a key fundraising arm of the Democratic Party, with the organization’s senior leadership being dragged before Congress to testify before House Republicans regarding significant evidence of fraudulent donations that came in on their watch, with a revealing press release from the House Judiciary Committee showing that the organization appears to have known about the fraud all along.

For background, on April 24, 2025, President Trump issued an official presidential action calling for an investigation into “unlawful ‘straw donor’ foreign contributions” allegedly received by ActBlue, the largest Democratic Party fundraising platform. Following the president’s order, ActBlue officials were subpoenaed by Congress to testify regarding their questionable practices for vetting donors. In response to the developing scandal, one conservative news outlet rightly stated, “The ActBlue house of cards is collapsing.”

In a June 25, 2025, press release from the House Judiciary Committee, Republican lawmakers announced that they had issued subpoenas to ActBlue’s Former Vice President of Customer Service, Alyssa Twomey, along with an unnamed member of the organization’s senior leadership. The committee alleged that these two ActBlue officials had ” failed to comply with the Committees’ (sic) voluntary processes, therefore warranting a subpoena.”

Continuing, the committee stated that ActBlue official documents revealed “significant evidence” that under Twomey’s leadership, ActBlue had a “fundamentally unserious approach to fraud prevention,” which allegedly included employees being instructed to “look for reasons to accept contributions” instead of vetting donors.”

Responding to the subpoenas from Congress, ActBlue CEO Regina Wallace-Jones issued a statement calling the House Judiciary Committee’s investigation “legal theater,” adding, “The Republican-led committees have also not addressed ActBlue’s legitimate concerns about the partisan and parallel inquiries by separate branches of the government being waged against President Trump’s and MAGA Republicans’ political opponents.”

As the scandal surrounding ActBlue continued to develop, conservative outlet Revolver News acknowledged how bad things are looking for the organization, writing on July 1, 2025, “The ActBlue house of cards is collapsing.” They added, “Trump authorized the probe. Pam Bondi leading it.” Moreover, the outlet pointed to allegations that ActBlue’s lax policies allowed “straw donations” to be made through “dummy accounts” owned by bad actors.

In response to Revolver, conservatives said the writing was on the wall, with one X user writing, “ActBlue funded domestic terrorism … aided by payments from foreign adversaries …” Another user chimed in, “ActBlue was also used by BLM who took the money donated and contributed to the 2020 elections of Biden, Warren, and Sanders. Of course, we already know the top people used the rest to buy mansions.”

Importantly, the investigation into ActBlue began with President Trump, who called on the Justice Department to look into evidence to suggest that foreign nationals are seeking to misuse online fundraising platforms to improperly influence American elections.” The president specifically ordered Attorney General Pam Bondi to report back “within 180 days of the date of this memorandum on the results of the investigation.”
