Chuck Schumer got brutally roasted on social media after he demanded that DOGE release documents related to their work of eliminating fraud, corruption, and waste within the federal government, with conservatives demolishing the Democratic senator for his corrupt, federally funded “pet projects” in New York City.
For context, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) recently called the work of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) into question, going as far as to write a letter to the head of another government agency (the Office of Personnel Management (OPM)) to demand the release of receipts related to OPM contracts cancelled by DOGE that led to a reported $320 million in savings for American taxpayers. In response, conservatives pointed a finger at Sen. Schumer’s own wasteful, fraudulent government spending.
In a press release from March 27, 2024, it was revealed that Sen. Schumer worked with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) to secure “more than 8.8 million in federal funds for local projects in Queens.” The press release explained that these projects included “workforce development programs for NYC youth and immigrant New Yorkers,” along with “culturally competent assisted living for South Asian seniors.”
Going into further detail, the press release quoted Sen. Schumer’s explanation of how he wanted to allocate the funding he had secured. Sen. Schumer said, “m proud to deliver these critical investments for our communities in Queens to improve hospital infrastructure, increase access to affordable healthcare services for immigrant communities, assist disadvantaged families with food assistance, and much more.”
Adding to Sen. Schumer’s statements, Sen. Gillabrand said, “I am thrilled to bring home nearly $9 million in federal funding to Queens. This critical funding will help invest in maternal care, assisted living facilities for those in most need, community centers like the YMCA, and preservation of the rich history and culture of Queens,.”
However, the press release, which detailed the allocation of the funds, confirmed that $1.5 million was going towards “a first-of-its-kind, culturally competent assisted living facility,” while $1 million was allocated to “a cloud burst stormwater management system,” with $500,000 more going towards “health and safety training, professional skills development, worker rights, civic engagement, legal referrals, wage theft mitigation, support services, and job search support for workers, including long-time immigrant New Yorkers, asylees, day laborers, and their families.”
When the details of Sen. Schumer’s “pet projects” were shared on X by the account I Meme Therefore I Am, the post admonished DOGE to “take a close look” at Sen. Schumer’s use of funds gained from “taxpayers from 50 states.” The post continued, “After all, he’s helped funnel taxpayer dollars for everything from housing migrants in the heart of Manhattan to sending money to the Pakistani government, making them millions.”

In response to the post, conservatives went off on Schumer, with the user The Austin Conservative writing, “Schumer is as corrupt as they come. I hope DOGE does take a really close look at him!” Another user added, “Those that scream the loudest have the most to hide,” and another chimed in, “Schumer’s corruption runs deep, time to follow the money!”
