GOP Rep. Pete Stauber torched woke Minnesota Governor Tim Walz during a House Oversight Committee hearing, accusing the governor of “stolen valor” and saying that he lied about the details of his military service, adding that he was “disgusted” with the notorious Democrat.
For context, during a House Oversight Committee hearing on June 12, 2025, Rep. Pete Stauber (R-MN) took Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota to task based on his public statements about his military service, which Rep. Stauber said contained contradictory information.
Moreover, while press accounts verified that Gov. Walz served in the Minnesota National Guard for 24 years and achieved the rank of command sergeant major, he was later demoted to master sergeant after he failed to complete required coursework, a fact that became a key aspect of Rep. Stauber’s case against the governor.
During the hearing, Rep. Stauber zeroed in on the discrepancies in the governor’s depiction of his National Guard serivce, asking the governor, “What weapons did you carry in war?” Gov. Walz began, “Congressman, for 24 years, I carried…” The congressman cut him off, saying, “No, no, no, what weapons did you carry in war?” The governor shot back, “What did you carry in uniform?” Referring to previous comments he had made about retiring from the National Guard as a Command Sergeant Major, Gov. Walz added, “You know I misspoke.”
Unwilling to let up, the congressman responded, “I’ll tell you what, Governor. You’re barking down the wrong tree. You lied to the Minnesotans. You said that you carried weapons in war.” He added, “That is stolen valor. You know what? My wife served 24 years—actually, a little bit more—and she’s an Iraq War veteran. She was over in the war zone. That’s stolen valor. I’m disgusted with you. And so are the people that you serve.”
After a tense back-and-forth between the congressman and the governor, the exchange came to a head when the congressman said, “Okay, here’s your coin. It says you retired as a Command Sergeant Major. This coin—it says you wore the rank.” The governor replied, “That’s right.”
Continuing, Rep. Stauber said to Gov. Walz, “You didn’t retire as one, did you?” to which the governor responded, “I did retire after 24 years.” The congressman, apparently catching the governor in a lie, said, “Here’s a picture of your coin—your challenge coin. I’m disgusted with you.”

Next, the congressman proceeded to go absolutely nuclear on Gov. Walz, saying, “You called half of Trump supporters Nazis and fascists. And you know what? That’s why the Minnesota Police and Peace Association did not support you in the last election—because of your actions.” He concluded, “On behalf of the folks from the land of rocks and cows—thank you. And I yield back.”
