ABC’s “The View” recently hosted a segment featuring MSNBC host Rachel Maddow. In it, they discussed the implications of another Trump presidency amid fears that the presumptive Republican nominee would seek retribution toward his political adversaries.
Co-host Joy Behar went as far as to suggest that Trump would seek to have “The View” taken off the air. “Some people think that sounds overdramatic but I’m right there with you. I think that he is so vindictive that he will go after, however he has to, whether it’s through the IRS maybe, or even through sponsors to get us off the air maybe or you. How seriously should we be taking that?” the panelist said.
Maddow explained that she’s not just worried about herself facing the supposed wrath of Donald Trump but that she is concerned about the broader country as well. “Well, so I was asked am I worried about me and my answer was I’m worried about all of us. I’m no worried about me than I am worried about everybody in the country,” Maddow responded.
As the clip circulated throughout social media, conservatives came out in full force, joking about the Trump Derangement Syndrome of full display. One user wrote a sarcastic comment condemning the hypothetical scenario in which the former president would cancel “The View.”
“Until now, I was planning to vote for Donald Trump for a third time But I cannot in good conscience support a man who will cancel The View, long known for its total impartiality and the towering intellect of venerated panelists such as Whoopi Goldberg & Joy Behar,” they commented.
“LOL sounds like a great deal!” said another use, cheering on the idea of the liberal talk show being taken off the air. Another person chimed in, illustrating how canceling “The View” would push them to vote for Trump even more. “I was already voting for him! They don’t have to convince me further!” said another person. The Chris Plante show wrote, “If Trump promises to cancel The View he will win all 50 states!”
The American Tribune reported on the full conversation between Maddow and the panel of co-hosts. Before her appearance on the show, the MSNBC personality had voiced her fears that Trump would consider putting his enemies in “camps.” Watch Maddow and Behar’s discussion below:
“I’m worried about the country broadly if we put someone in power who is openly avowing that he plans to build camps to hold millions of people, and to ‘root out’ what he’s described in subhuman terms as his ‘enemy from within.’” Maddow previously said. “For that matter, what convinces you that these massive camps he’s planning are only for migrants? I’m worried about me — but only as much as I’m worried about all of us.”
Maddow continued bashing the GOP frontrunner, claiming he seeks to obtain as much power as possible to punish other Americans while pursuing his political agenda. “I think it’s bad to have somebody saying, ‘give me as much power as you can in this country. So I can use it to go after other Americans. So I can use it to go after the subhuman internal enemies, and I’ll destroy them.’ That’s just not a good system for anybody, and I don’t think anybody’s safe if that’s the sort of basis on which he wants to get more,” she said during the segment.
