Christian football star Harrison Butker was recently slammed by woke tennis star Serena Williams, who attacked him over comments he made when he gave the commencement speech at Benedictine College and spoke about the importance of motherhood and raising children to be the best they can be when addressing the women in the room.
As background, Butker encouraged women present to see the importance of being a homemaker. Beginning, he said women had been lied to, saying, “For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. You should be proud of all that you have achieved to this point in your young lives. I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you.”
Continuing, he explained how his wife’s decision to be a homemaker rather than a cog in a corporate machine was a highly impactful one, saying, “How many of you are sitting here now about to cross this stage and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career? Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife, Isabelle, would be the first to say that her life truly started when she began living her vocation as a wife and as a mother.”
Serena was onstage with her sister Venus alongside “Abbott Elementary” actress Quinta Brunson, delivering statements before the audience at the award ceremony. After Venus delivered remarks from the teleprompter, Serena directly called out Butker. “So, go ahead and enjoy women’s sports like you would any other sports, because they are sports,” Venus said. Serena jumped in, “Except you, Harrison Butker. We don’t need you.” Brunson added, “At all. Like, ever.”

Commenters on were quick to share their thoughts about the attacks on Butker. One commenter, for example, called it “Pure cringe,” while another deemed it “Tacky.” Another wrote, “Butker really touched a nerve eh? 🤣 Have the Williams sisters spoken out against men competing in women’s sports yet? You remember that time that chap ranked outside the top 200 thrashed the pair of them. So they have first hand experience, time to step up ladies.”
Another commenter chimed in to say, “Telling young people to build families isn’t tacky. Did you read or listen to the whole speech? What did you think about what @buttkicker7 suggested to men?? If you didn’t, ask yourself why that wasn’t publicized.” Another argued, “Harrison Butker did NOT say anything even remotely sexist. All he really said is that it’s OK to be happy to be a mother. It’s OK if being a mom is your career. In fact, it’s bad ass. People just hear what they want to hear.”
