In what looks like it could turn into another major scandal for the anti-Trump judiciary, notoriously woke Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson has been called out for clapping along to virulently anti-ICE sentiments delivered at the Grammys Awards show, something that Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) alleges shows unethical bias on the justice’s part.
For reference, the Grammys, which occurred on the night of Sunday, February 1, were dominated by anti-ICE sentiments, with singer Billie Eilish delivering a short yet still rambling speech about “stolen land” and then ending itby saying “F*** ICE”. Similarly, far-left singer Bad Bunny pushed much the same message about hating ICE.
During that leftist spectacle, Justice Jackson was prominently clapping along, joining in, with her applause, as various speakers criticized ICE. She was in attendance at the notoriously woke event because her audiobook version of her ridiculous and terrible memoir, Lovely One, had been nominated for an award.
Sen. Blackburn fired off in a fiery letter sent to Chief Justice John Roberts. She began, “I write today regarding recent reporting about Associate Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s attendance at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday, February 1, and theethical questions raised by her attendance at such a highly politicized event.”
Continuing, she called for an investigation into Justice Jackson’s behavior at the event, as it is required by law that “a Supreme Court justice ‘act at all times in a manner that promotes public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary.'” She then further noted that the Grammys incident was atypical, writing, “very rarely—if ever—have justices of our nation’s highest Court been present at an event at which attendees have amplified such far-left rhetoric.”
Giving some examples of the far-left rhetoric and behavior that Justice Jackson’s attendance and clapping along seemed to imply, Justice Jackson said, “Many of the attendees wore lapel pins that read ‘ICE OUT,’ an anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) adage. One Grammy winner that evening opened his acceptance speech by stating, “Before I say thanks to God, I’m going to say ‘ICE out,’” which was received with thunderous applause by the crowd. Another award recipient that evening noted in her acceptance speech that ‘No one is illegal on stolen land,’ going on to say that ‘we need to keep fighting and speaking up and protesting . . . And f*** ICE, that’s all I’m gonna say.'”
Noting that Jackson didn’t leave when the even became highly inappropriate, Sen. Blackburn then said, “These statements were just two of many polarized, highly charged anti-law enforcement sentiments from that evening. It is important to note that Justice Jackson was present in the audience throughout the event.”

Continuing after noting that the Democrats have launched a slew of meritless claims against Republicans, Blackburn argued these matters are different, saying, “Unlike these meritless claims against Justice Alito and Justice Thomas, there are serious questions regarding Justice Jackson’s participation in such a brazenly political, anti-law enforcement event and her ability to remain an impartial member of the Supreme Court.”
She then noted, “In addition to its requirement that justices remain impartial, the Court’s Code of Conduct also states that recusal should apply ‘where an unbiased and reasonable person who is aware of all relevant circumstances would doubt that the Justice could fairly discharge his or her duties.’ Following Justice Jackson’s participation in such a partisan and inflammatory event, an investigation into her ability to remain impartial with respect to immigration matters that come before the Court is urgently needed.”
Concluding, she said, “To that end, in the interest of a fair-minded, impartial, and independent federal judiciary, I urge you to initiate an investigation into Justice Jackson’s attendance at this event and if her participation in any way would require recusal from matters that will come before the Court. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.”
