In yet another humiliating moment for Biden, conservatives roasted the former president for his frail demeanor and bizarre behavior at Pope Francis’ funeral, calling him out after the 82-year-old Democrat had to be escorted down a flight of stairs by his wife and a bishop.
For context, Pope Francis’ funeral was held on April 26, 2025, at St. Peter’s Basilica, and both President Donald Trump and former President Biden were in attendance. However, Biden was seated near the back of the funeral’s foreign dignitaries section while President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump sat at the front. Additionally, following the funeral, many conservatives criticized Biden for tone-deaf behavior, including snapping selfies with foreign diplomats.
When the X user The Sardonic Patriot posted a photo of the frail former president being escorted down the stairs at St. Peter’s Basilica, he wrote a satirical and hilarious caption that called Biden out for his out-of-touch communication style, speculating that Biden told the priest, “Ya know, they asked me to be the Pope one time. No, really, I’m not foolin’ around. It’s no malarky. They really did.”
In response to the humorous commentary from The Sardonic Patriot, many conservatives chimed in the comments section with their own jabs at Biden. one user with the handle Sam Culper wrote, “‘I grew up in the Vatican’ – Joe Biden (Probably),” and another added, “It was right after he beat up Corn Pop and right before they touched his legs. Great post.”
In addition to becoming the butt of the joke for his frailty, Biden was also fiercely criticized for taking selfies at the funeral. An X post from the account UG Diplomat later confirmed that one of the selfies Biden took was with Ugandan Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, which led to even more criticism of Biden. One user responded, “Why did Biden show up?” and another added, “Typical…taking selfies at a funeral?!”
Following Pope Francis’ passing, Biden attempted to honor the late faith leader with a tribute on X. He wrote, “Pope Francis will be remembered as one of the most consequential leaders of our time, and I am better for having known him. For decades, he served the most vulnerable across Argentina, and his mission of serving the poor never ceased.”
Concluding his tribute, Biden added, “He made all feel welcome and seen by the Church. He promoted equity and an end to poverty and suffering across the globe. And above all, he was a Pope for everyone. He was the People’s Pope – a light of faith, hope, and love.”

After he posted his tribute to Pope Francis, Biden still couldn’t escape criticism. One user with the handle YourFavoriteGuy roasted Biden in the comments section, saying, “He said your genocide was terrorism. You are a terrorist in his eyes.” Another added, “Joe Biden is a fake Catholic. Let’s remember that. He cancelled Easter at the White House.”
