Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi got called out on X by former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund, who took Pelosi to task after she accused President Trump of hypocrisy for federalizing Washington, D.C., and deploying the National Guard to crack down on violent crime in the city.
For background, hours after President Trump announced the federalization of Washington, D.C., former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took to X to rip into the president for his “delayed” deployment of the National Guard on January 6, 2021. In response, Former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund digitally disgraced Pelosi, telling her it was “long past time” to come clean about her partial responsibility for the January 6 incident.
Writing on X on August 11, Pelosi said, “Donald Trump delayed deploying the National Guard on January 6th when our Capitol was under violent attack and lives were at stake.” She added, “Now, he’s activating the DC Guard to distract from his incompetent mishandling of tariffs, health care, education and immigration — just to name a few blunders.”
Replying to Pelosi, Steven Sund was polite but firm, saying, “Ma’am, it is long past time to be honest with the American people.” He continued, “On January 3, I requested National Guard assistance, but your Sergeant at Arms denied it. Under federal law (2 U.S.C. §1970), I was prohibited from calling them in without specific approval.”
Continuing, Sund explained, “That same day, Carol Corbin at the Pentagon offered National Guard support, but I was forced to decline because I lacked the legal authority.” Going on to expose Pelosi further, Sund wrote, On January 6, while the Capitol was under attack and despite my repeated calls, your Sergeant at Arms again denied my urgent requests for over 70 agonizing minutes, ‘running it up the chain’ for your approval.
Finally, Sund told Pelosi, “When I needed assistance, it was denied.” In contrast, he said, “Yet when it suited you, you ordered fencing topped with concertina wire and surrounded the Capitol with thousands of armed National Guard troops.”
In addition, Sund was not the only conservative to fire back after Pelosi tried to take a shot at President Trump. The influencer Desiree wrote, “Come on, Nancy, you were the General of January 6th. We all know it. We all saw the videos. You gave the orders, you ran the play, and now you’re trying to rewrite the script. Stop it.” Another commenter chimed in, “You’re literally on camera admitting you failed on J6.”

Furthermore, multiple other commenters pointed to footage of the former House Speaker repeatedly saying “I take full responsibility” in reference to January 6, adding, “We have totally failed. We have to take some responsibility for not holding the security accountable for what could have happened.” She reportedly added, “Oh my god, I cannot believe the stupidity of this. And I take the full responsibility.”
