In a shocking display of leftist hypocrisy, a prominent Texas trial lawyer and major Democrat donor has been charged with a misdemeanor offense after the assault of a family member, which ended in a call to Houston police and the leftist Texan being thrown in jail.
For context, Eric Dick, a Houston-based lawyer and trustee on the board of the Harris County Department of Education, was arrested on March 7 after he hit a family member who was later revealed to be his wife. However, minimal details have been made public about the nature of the assault and the injuries Mr. Dick caused.
Additionally, Mr. Dick’s political history has been a source of confusion since before his arrest, as the Texan holds office as a Republican but donated $30,750 to assist Democrats in the 2024 election, with a reported $25,000 donation to the Community Justice PAC, an organization focused on electing Democratic judicial candidates.
Commenting to Houston Public Media, a Houston Police Department spokesperson gave further background on Mr. Dick’s arrest, explaining, “It was about 5:40 a.m. on March 7; a 39-year-old female stated that she had argued with him and was pushed to the ground and punched,” the spokesperson said. “He then locked himself in the bathroom. We managed to talk him out, and he told the officer that they had both argued, and then he was taken into custody.”
In response to the incident, Mr. Dick sent an email to The Houston Landing, issuing a public apology. He wrote, “I love (the alleged victim) with all of my heart and am sorry for any embarrassment that I caused her,” and was later released with no requirement to post bail.
In another email response written to Houston Public Media, Dick expressed further remorse for the incident, writing, “I deeply regret any embarrassment I may have caused [my wife],” he wrote in the statement. “Marriage is hard, and I understand that being married to a workaholic lawyer is especially impossible. [My wife] is, and always will be, the love of my life.”
Mr. Dick’s recent arrest is not his first encounter with legal trouble. On May 29, 2024, the Hawaii Attorney General’s office pressed charges against Mr. Dick and his law firm, accusing him of unauthorized practice of law and attempted unauthorized practice of law, both of which are misdemeanors. Dick has reportedly pled not guilty.

In addition, Mr. Dick is currently under legal scrutiny after he filed a court affidavit signed by a man who has reportedly been dead for ten months. In response, one of Dick’s associates told the press it was a case of “mistaken identity,” explaining that the signer was really the man’s son, who shares his name. Currently, Mr. Dick’s law firm has don’t formally responded to a show cause order filed on February 18, 2025 as a result of the affidavit.
