Mitch McConnell’s approval ratings are in the absolute gutter, with pretty much everyone in America detesting him.
News on that comes from a recent Civiqs poll. It found that a shockingly low 7% of Americans view Mitch favorably, with just 18% of Republicans viewing him favorably.
That’s a record low for McConnell according to the Civiqs data through 2018. Up until now, his record low was 8 percent, a polling number he received in February of 2021. It subsequently bounced up to 12 percent and then stayed in the 8 to 11 percent range before falling back to 7 percent.
Before then, however, McConnell was much more popular, receiving a 31 percent favorability rating at one point during the Trump presidency.
However, McConnell’s periodic bouts of backbone and continual backing down have made him unpopular with nearly everyone.
Democrats hate him because of how he held up Merrick Garland’s nomination and never moved forward with it, a gamble that played off when Trump won the presidency and was then able to add a total of three justices to the bench.
Republicans detest him, however, because of his continual backing down and willingness to compromise, even when he holds all the power, as we saw during the budget fight in 2021.
And those are party-specific issues. Things have also generally gone poorly during McConnell’s time in Senate leadership. Breitbart, reporting on those problems, noted that:
Under McConnell’s Senate leadership, the national debt has soared more than $20 trillion, illegal immigration has continued, real wages for American workers have remained stagnant, Obamacare was enacted in 2010, big banks were bailed out in 2008, and social media companies have silenced individuals without repercussions. Dr. Anthony Fauci remains unaccountable for allegedly twice lying to Congress.
And so McConnell is under attack, both from within and without the GOP. Former President Donald Trump, for instance, recently ripped into Mitch McConnell on Truth Social, saying:
“…Mitch McConnell, the Republicans Broken Down Senate Leader, does nothing about this. He’s too busy spending vast amounts of money on bad Senator Lisa M of Alaska, when Kelly S is FAR better. Should have fought and stopped the steal in 2020. Gave Dems 4 Trillion Dollars, never used Debt Ceiling. He is the WORST!”
“It’s Mitch McConnell’s fault. Spending money to defeat great Republican candidates instead of backing Blake Masters and others was a big mistake. Giving 4 Trillion Dollars to the Radical Left for the Green New Deal, not Infrastructure, was an even bigger mistake. He blew the Midterms, and everyone despises him and his otherwise lovely wife, Coco Chow!”
Trump also ripped McConnell in a press statement, saying:
“Kelly Tshibaka is doing very well in Alaska, probably leading horrendously bad Senator Lisa Murkowski, a Republican (barely!). The Democrat has no chance, and yet the Old Broken Crow, Mitchell McConnell, is authorizing $9 Million Dollars to be spent in order to beat a great Republican, Kelly, instead of $9 Million Dollars that could be used for Blake Masters, and other Republicans, that with this money would beat their Democrat opponent. Isn’t it ironic?”
Mitch McConnell is giving the Democrats everything they want. He is their lapdog! He didn’t stop trillions of dollars in spending by refusing to use the Debt Ceiling as a negotiating tool. He gave it up for nothing. Now he wants to give Manchin the thing he wanted in order to destroy America, and even the People of West Virginia….
….How about his tax on coal? The Republican Senate must do something about this absolute Loser, Mitch McConnell, who folds every time against the Democrats—and he’s only getting worse!
Finally, some Republicans with great Courage! Rick Scott, Ted Cruz, and Mike Lee are working hard to stop Chuck Schumer and his favorite Senator Mitch McConnell from ramming through a disastrous Continuing Resolution that would do nothing to Stop Inflation, Grow our Economy, or Restore the American Dream—it would only put Big Government First and give Manchin his terrible deal….
….Instead, we need a LONG-TERM Continuing Resolution, so we can deal with the real Emergency at hand, the Radical Left’s destruction of America, and once again, put AMERICA First. McConnell is so bad!
Meanwhile, however, more Establishment GOP politicians have remained by McConnell’s side. Sen. Tom Cotton recently did so, for example, saying:
And so far, no one’s had the nerve to step forward and challenge Senator McConnell. So I support Senator McConnell. I support the other slate of candidates for our leadership elections. I think it’s better that we move forward with these elections. So we can focus again on the Georgia runoff
