Speaking in an interview with podcast host Kara Swisher on her show “On with Kara Swisher,” far-left Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez said that she is worried that former President Donald Trump will throw her in jail if he manages to win the 2024 election in November. The two also spoke about issues like her spat with Amazon and tech leaders siding with Trump in this election cycle.
Rep. AOC’s comments come in the context of Trump hinting that he is at least thinking about vengeance against those involved in the lawfare campaign against him. He made that comment while describing the situation as a “terrible thing,” saying, “I got a lot of credit from a lot of people, and some people said I should have done it, but, you know, could have, would have been very easy to do it, but I thought it would be a terrible precedent for our country. Wouldn’t it be terrible to throw the Pres wife and the former Secretary of State into jail? Wouldn’t that be a terrible thing? But they wanna do it!”
Continuing, Trump returned to calling the situation and precedent “terrible,” adding that the real question is if he will go through with it and try to jail his enemies as he was attacked with so many lawfare attacks. Begining with the part about it being “terrible,” he said, “It’s a terrible, terrible, path that they’re leading us to.”
Then, he warned that the same thing could happen to the regime apparatchiks who tried to take him down with lawfare, saying, “it’s very possible that it’s going to have to happen to them. It’s a very terrible thing. It’s a terrible precedent for our country. Does that mean the next president does it to them? That’s really the question.”
In any case, Rep. AOC warned Swisher that she fears being locked up by Trump if he manages a win in the November election, saying, “I mean, it sounds nuts, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this guy threw me in jail. Continuing, she added, ignoring that “lock her up” was about Hillary rather than her, “He’s out of his mind. I mean, he did his whole first campaign around ‘lock her up.’ This is his motto.”
Continuing, she claimed that Trump wants to “round up people” and that he “threatens journalists,” though if she was referring to any specific incident or just using hyperbole to refer to his “fake news” claims was unclear. She said, “I take him at his word when he says that he’s going to round up people. I take him at his word when he threatens journalists. I take him at his word.”
She then made the point that Trump’s first administration was somewhat unprofessional and got less done than it otherwise could have, adding that she doesn’t think that will happen again this time. She said, “I feel like what we saw in his first presidency was an amuse-bouche to what his intentions are. He has learned from his mistakes of appointing professionals, and he will not make that mistake next time.”
She also admitted that Trump could win the election, saying, “Trump does absolutely have a chance to win. That is why I have thrown my support behind Biden early and I support it vociferously. It is unequivocal that if Donald Trump wins, we are looking at the potential dissolution of democracy in the United States of America and the question about what would happen to me or the Democratic Party is a joke compared to the question of what is going to happen to our country.”
And, speaking about the demoralization of voters with Biden as their choice, she said, “I think when it comes to presidential elections, and especially to young people, I understand the lack of support for President Biden. And I think the demoralization around the president has caused folks to sometimes tune out on down-ballot candidates that will actually advance more alignment with their interests. And so the answer here is to get into the game, not to get out of it.”
