The future is not looking bright for New York’s woke Attorney General, Letitia James, with the results of a new poll showing that her constituents have turned on her and other left-wing politicians in the Empire State, including Governor Kathy Hochul, who, along with James, is a longtime opponent of Presidnet Trump.
For context, a poll published on February 3, 2025, by Siena Research Institute at Siena College in Loudonville, New York, revealed that many New Yorkers now have a negative opinion of Attorney General Letitia James, along with House Minority Leader and New York Congressman Hakeem Jeffries and Governor Kathy Hochul. The poll showed that the attorney general’s approval rating is at its all-time low and that the majority of surveyed New Yorkers “overwhelmingly support” deporting illegal immigrants with criminal records.
In a report on the poll’s results, researchers at Siena College explained that Gov. Kathy Hochul’s approval rating is “underwater,” adding that the issues that New Yorkers support the most at the moment are “free meals for school kids, cops on nighttime subways, increasing child tax credit, and restricting students’ smartphone use in schools.”
Furthermore, the researchers indicated that Attorney General James has a higher approval rating than Gov. Hochul, but that the all-time highest recorded number of surveyed individuals disapprove of the attorney general. Moreover, City Journal reported that James’s campaign for reelection is “on the ropes” and that she had “the worst performance by a winning Democratic gubernatorial candidate in 40 years” in the previous election.
In addition, summing up the findings of the Siena College study, City Journal argued that James’s campaign could be in even more trouble as polls indicate that the next mayor of New York may be former governor Andrew Cuomo. Moreover, City Journal’s coverage drew attention to the ongoing mortgage scandal that the attorney general is embroiled in, which centers around her allegedly declaring that a property in Virginia is her “principal residence,” disqualifying her from holding office in New York.
Adding to the dire nature of her situation, on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that she had led the Department of Justice in filing charges against AG James and several other prominent New York officials. Commenting on the matter, AG Bondi explained that the DOJ had “filed charges against the state of New York,” adding, “We have filed charges against Kathy Hochul. We have filed charges against Letitia James and Mark Schroeder, who is with DMV.”
Continuing, AG Bondi explained that the lawsuit against the state of New York was based on the enforcement of “Green Light Laws” in the state, which allow illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses. The attorney general said, “New York has chosen to prioritize illegal aliens over American citizens. It stops today. We sued Illinois. New York did not listen. Now you’re next.”

Furthermore, Trump’s attorney general said that while it was not her desire to sue Gov. Hochul and AG James, along with the others named in the lawsuit, it was a necessary move to get state officials in line with federal law. Bondi explained, “We don’t want to sue you. We don’t want to prosecute people. We want people to comply with the law.”
