Kevin McCarthy Makes Massive Threat if Border Crisis Does Not Improve

House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy announced at a Tuesday press conference that the Republican House majority will be investigating Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to consider impeachment if he does not resign.  The investigation would be over the lack of border security during the Biden administration.  The press conference was held in El Paso, Texas, a town located at the heart of the border crisis.

His speech detailed the massive spike in illegal immigration under Joe Biden, where we have seen over four million illegal border crossings along the southern border since 2021.  This illegal immigration has correlated with a surge in highly lethal fentanyl coming into the United States and causing a noticeable increase in drug overdoses.  McCarthy implies much of the blame for this lies in Mayorkas gross mishandling of our border.

    Kevin McCarthy stated:

“Our country may never recover from Secretary Mayorkas dereliction of duty. This is why today I am calling on the Secretary to resign. He can not and must not remain in that position. If Secretary does not resign, House Republicans will investigate every order, every action, and every failure. We’ll determine whether we can begin impeachment inquiry.”

“If Secretary Mayorkas was in charge of any company, he would have been by now for the failures of what he has caused.  If the investigation leads to an impeachment inquiry, we will follow through.”

McCarthy is anticipated to become the Speaker of the House in light of the Republican majority.  He has indicated there will be congressional hearings on border security next year if he obtains the position.

Other Republicans have backed this idea as well, where Sen. Ted Cruz and Sen. Lindsay Graham informed Mayorkas last month that impeachment could be possible if illegal immigration does not decline.

The situation at the border has become so dire that local and state leaders are having to take matters into their own hands.  Gov. Greg Abbott recently declared an “invasion” on the southern border:

“I invoked the Invasion Clauses of the U.S. & Texas Constitutions to fully authorize Texas to take unprecedented measures to defend our state against an invasion. I’m using that constitutional authority, & other authorization & Executive Orders to keep our state & country safe.”

Following this announcement, Abbott then proceeded to deploy tanks along the southern border.  Zero Hedge wrote:

“Three days after Texas Governor Greg Abbott invoked the state’s “Invasion Clauses” to tackle the record-setting influx of migrants illegally crossing the southern border, a new planning document obtained by Army Times and The Texas Tribune reveals Texas Military Department officials are planning to deploy a fleet of fully tracked armored personnel carriers and National Guard troops.”

Texas Military Department officials issued the order Thursday to the headquarters leading Operation Lone Star reveals. It detailed the deployment of ten M113 armored personnel carrier vehicles to the border.”

Secretary Mayorkas has responded to the Republican threats, stating:

“The Department will continue our work to enforce our laws and secure our border, while building a safe, orderly, and humane immigration system.  Members of Congress can do better than point the finger at someone else; they should come to the table and work on solutions for our broken system and outdated laws, which have not been overhauled in over 40 years.”
