Texas Governor Greg Abbott has officially invoked the Invasion Clauses of the U.S. and Texas Constitution, now declaring illegal immigration at our southern border to be an invasion.
Governor Abbott took to Twitter on Tuesday to make the declaration:
“I invoked the Invasion Clauses of the U.S. & Texas Constitutions to fully authorize Texas to take unprecedented measures to defend our state against an invasion.”

The tweet includes a list of actions the state of Texas will be taking:
“I’m using that constitutional authority, & other authorization & Executive Orders to keep our state & country safe:
- Deploy the National Guard to safeguard the border, and to repel and turn back immigrants trying to cross the border illegally
- Deploy the Texas Dept. of Public Safety (DPS) to arrest and return immigrants to the border who crossed illegally, and to arrest illegal immigrants for criminal activity;
- Build a wall in multiple counties on the border;
- Deploy gun boats;
- Designate Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations;
- Enter into a compact with other states to secure the border;
- Enter into agreements with foreign powers to enhance border security;
- Provide resources for border counties to increase their efforts to respond to the “border invasion.”
On Monday, Hopkins County, Texas declared a local state of disaster described as an invasion from Mexico and a “humanitarian disaster”. They further explained the local residents were under “imminent threat” from illegal activities coming in from the Southern border.
The Hopkins County declaration stated:
“The health, safety and welfare of Hopkins County residents are under an imminent threat of disaster from the unprecedented levels of illegal immigration, human trafficking and drug smuggling coming across the U.S. border from Mexico.”
“The ongoing immigration crisis on the Texas border is not acceptable and has resulted in a security threat and humanitarian disaster with overwhelming consequences to the residents of Hopkins County.”
The county also urged Governor Abbott to declare the existence of an invasion and take necessary actions at his level to ensure the safety of Texas residents. This appears to be the precursor to Abbott’s executive order.
This year U.S. Customs and Border Protection report 2.1 million encounters at the border this year.
This demonstrates the huge spike in illegal immigration that has occurred under Joe Biden. Illegal immigrants have become emboldened by declining economies in Latin American and the weak border policies of Democrats.
Greg Abbott has been sending hundreds of buses filled with illegal immigrants to liberal cities around the country. This intends to distribute the humanitarian crisis caused by millions of people flowing through our border and inspire political action to be taken at the federal level.
Abbott stated in a recent tweet:
“The 300th Texas bus of migrants just left for Chicago.”
“As Biden does nothing, Texas will continue taking unprecedented action to relieve our overwhelmed border communities & secure the border.”
However, as Abbott points out, Biden is doing nothing to secure our border. Democrats will hardly even acknowledge this issue.
It is inspiring to see Governor Abbott taking substantive action to stop illegal immigration. Other states will have to do the same in the absence Democrat initiative at the federal level.
