In a bombshell tweet, the president of the conservative government accountability think tank Judicial Watch revealed that the woke activist Judge Boasberg had been involved in efforts to protect Obama and several other prominent Democrats after it was revealed that they had been offered political bribes by Rod Blagojevich, the disgraced former governor of Illinois.
For context, on February 26, 2020, Tom Fitton, President of Judicial Watch, announced on X (then called Twitter) that he had been present for a court hearing in which Judge James Boasberg was revealed to have helped “protect the privacy” of top Democrats, including former President Barack Obama, who were embroiled in a scandal involving former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, who attempted to bargain with Obama for a job in exchange for appointing a White House-preferred person to Obama’s Senate seat.
Writing on X, Fitton said that he had just come out of a court hearing “with Judge Boasberg” in which “DOJ/FBI lawyers argued they needed to protect the ‘privacy’ of Obama and other top Democrats caught up in the Blago scandals.” Fitton added that Judicial Watch had been fighting to obtain documents verifying that Obama engaged in bribery with Blagojevich “for 3 years!”
Furthermore, in a press release published on December 5, 2016, Judicial Watch confirmed that it had filed a lawsuit against the Department of Justice “seeking access to FBI reports of interviews – ‘302s’ – of President Obama, Valerie Jarrett, and Rahm Emanuel,” all of whom were allegedly involved in former Governor Blagojevich’s efforts to seek “political favors in exchange for deciding who to appoint to the U.S. Senate seat vacated by then-President-Elect Obama.”
Continuing, the press release clarified that Obama “reportedly declined to make a deal,” at which point Blagojevich “then turned to supporters of Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr., offering the U.S. Senate seat in return for a $1.5 million ‘campaign contribution.'” Judicial Watch added that Blagojevich stopped trying to negotiate with Rep. Jackson after he “learned that he was being wiretapped by federal investigators.”
Moreover, when Fitton revealed the details about Judge Boasberg’s involvement in protecting the “privacy” of those embroiled in the Blagojevich scandal, commenters on Twitter praised him for his work, with a user with the handle Craig writing, “Thank you sir for the work you do, without it the average American would know very little about how corrupt our political class is!” They added, “Keep exposing the rats for all to see.”
In addition, more than five years later, Judge Boasberg came under fire once again for defying the Constitution in an effort to block the Trump Administration from deporting illegal immigrants. During a press conference on March 19, 2025, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt slammed the woke judge, saying that he was “essentially trying to say that the president doesn’t have the executive authority to deport foreign terrorists from our American soil.” She added, “That is an egregious abuse of the bench. This judge cannot and does not have that authority.”

Continuing, Leavitt defended President Trump’s hardline stance on illegal immigration and exposed Boasberg for being a leftist activist, saying, “Under the Alien Enemies Act, the president has this power, and that’s why this deportation campaign has continued. And this judge, Judge Boasberg, is a Democrat activist. He was appointed by Barack Obama. His wife has donated more than $10,000 to Democrats, and he has consistently shown his disdain for this president and his policies, and it’s unacceptable.”
