Christian football star Harrison Butker was recently slammed by woke tennis star Serena Williams, who attacked him over comments he made at Benedictine College about women, namely how he thinks his wife’s decision to be a homemaker was incredibly valuable to their family. Butker has now responded, firing back at Williams over her remarks.
Serena, when she attacked Butker, was onstage with her sister Venus alongside “Abbott Elementary” actress Quinta Brunson, delivering statements before the audience at the award ceremony. After Venus delivered remarks from the teleprompter, Serena directly called out Butker. “So, go ahead and enjoy women’s sports like you would any other sports, because they are sports,” Venus said. Serena jumped in, “Except you, Harrison Butker. We don’t need you.” Brunson added, “At all. Like, ever.”
Firing back, Butker took the high road and noted the importance of freedom of speech and speaking one’s mind, as Williasm did here, saying that he thinks it was good she spoke her beliefs. “I thought Mrs. Williams was a great host and applaud her for using her platform to express her beliefs on a variety of topics,” Butker said to NBC Sports.
Continuing, he got to roasting her over the coals for what she did, he said, “Sports are supposed to be the great unifier. And at an event dedicated to celebrating a diverse group of men and women who have accomplished great feats, she used it as an opportunity to disinvite those with whom she disagrees with from supporting fellow athletes.”
As background, Butker encouraged women present to see the importance of being a homemaker. Beginning, he said women had been lied to, saying, “For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. You should be proud of all that you have achieved to this point in your young lives. I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you.”
Continuing, he explained how his wife’s decision to be a homemaker rather than a cog in a corporate machine was a highly impactful one, saying, “How many of you are sitting here now about to cross this stage and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career? Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife, Isabelle, would be the first to say that her life truly started when she began living her vocation as a wife and as a mother.”
