In what could just be another stern letter that ultimately means nothing from the GOP, or could be the beginning of a real legal campaign against the Clintons, GOP House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has moved to commence contempt of Congress proceedings against both Bill and Hillary Clinton over their refusal to respond to subpoenas regarding the committee’s probe into the Epstein scandal.
As background, this spat began back in July of 2025, when a bipartisan subcommittee in the House Oversight Committee approved motions to subpoena a slew of high-profile political figures connected to Epstein and his operation as part of its investigation into the government’s disastrously poor handling of the Epstein matter.
Amongst those figures who were subpoenaed, when the subpoenas were mailed out in early August, were both Bill and Hillary Clinton. The Clintons were scheduled to testify, at the time, over the course of both December 17th and December 18th. They have, however, refused to reply to the subpoenas, leaving Congress to decide how to proceed.
Rep. Comer indicated that it would respond with legal attacks against them to try to force them to comply with Congress’s demands. Saying as much in a press statement released on the evening of Friday, December 12, Fox News Digital reports, Rep. Comer said that the Clintons have had months to comply and have instead spent that time trying to obstruct the subcommittee.
He said, “It has been more than four months since Bill and Hillary Clinton were subpoenaed to sit for depositions related to our investigation into Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell’s horrific crimes. Throughout that time, the former president and former secretary of state have delayed, obstructed, and largely ignored the committee staff’s efforts to schedule their testimony.”
Continuing, the Republican congressman drew a line in the sand, saying that the Clintons could comply by either scheduling an early January appearance or appearing as originally scheduled. He added that if they don’t do either option, then they will face contempt of Congress proceedings. He said, “If the Clintons fail to appear for their depositions next week or schedule a date for early January, the Oversight Committee will begin contempt of Congress proceedings to hold them accountable.”
Fox News Digital then reached out to the Clinons about the matter. A Clinton Foundation spokesperson, in reply, said, “Ask the Chairman for the letter we sent him, and why he won’t respond to it.” It did not, however, provide the letter that it supposedly sent to Rep Comer.

His office responded to those allegations by saying that the Clintons are attempting to use delaying tactics and their residual political power to get out of doing a deposition, saying that they “think they are above the law and are trying to get out of their depositions by using dilatory tactics.”
Continuing, that spokesperson for Rep. Comer added, “We communicated to the Clintons’ attorney today that they must appear next week or provide a date in early January to appear for their depositions or we will begin contempt of Congress proceedings. They’ve been dragging their feet for over four months. Time’s up.”
