GOP Congressman Moves to Drag George Soros in Front of Congress after Major Russia Hoax Revelation

In the wake of new information released as part of the declassified Durham report annex showing that George Soros’s Open Society Foundation was involved in the Russia Hoax that did so much to delay and impede the first Trump Administration, Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) moved to pull Soros in front of Congress to have him testify.

As background, the part of the declassified report regarding the Soros-founded and backed Open Society Foundation found that the department head for Eurasia was implicated via emails in which he helped push the sources for the scandal along, and admitted in the emails that the information could be used to draw public scrutiny away from Hillary’s emails.

Describing what it thinks of the OSF’s regional director’s involvement, the Durham annex noted, “The Office’s best assessment is that the … emails that purport to be from Benardo were ultimately a composite of several emails that were obtained through Russian intelligence hacking of the U.S.-based Think Tanks, including the Open Society Foundations, the Carnegie Endowment, and others.”

So, Burchett aims to drag Soros before Congress. Such is what he demanded in a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Comer on August 1, 2025, writing that the new evidence is deserving of a public hearing on the matter and that Chairman Comer should use his subpoena power to compel them to attend.

Beginning the letter, Rep. Burchett wrote, “Thank you for your continued leadership on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. I am reaching out regarding new information showing evidence of a conspiracy to sabotage President Donald Trump’s 2016 election and presidency.”

Continuing, he explained the background of the matter, putting it in the context of the Trump Administration’s revelations about the Obama Administration and Hillary Clinton. He said, “As you know, Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard recently declassified evidence of a conspiracy by former President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and the national security apparatus to manufacture and politicize intelligence to subvert President Trump and the will of the American people.”

Then, getting to the matter of Soros and the OSF’s involvement, Rep. Burchett wrote, “Included in this evidence is a concerning email allegedly from Leonard Benardo, an employee of democratic donor George Soros’s Open Society Foundations, plotting to discredit the incoming Trump Administration.”

And, using that to argue that both Soros and the Eurasia director implicated in the declassified emails about the Russia Hoax, Leonard Benardo, should be dragged before Congress to testify about what happened, Rep. Burchett wrote, “Considering the Open Society Foundations’ continued influence on U.S. elections, I respectfully request you invite Mr. Soros and Mr. Benardo to testify in a public hearing before the Committee.”

Concluding, the MAGA representative explained why Chairman Comer should use his subpoena powers and crack down on the OSF for its role in the scandal. He said, “Should they refuse the invitation, I encourage you to use subpoena powers. Americans deserve answers into the subversion of our institutions by malicious actors. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.”
