“Good Riddance”: RINO Senator Announces He Is Quitting and Gets Absolutely Roasted

Notorious RINO Senator Thom Tillis announced that he will not be running for re-election. which led conservatives to absolutely take him apart online, fiercely criticizing the senator for his opposition to President Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill” based on its proposed cuts to Medicaid, which Sen. Tillis said “will betray the very promise” the president made on the issue of Medicaid.

For context, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) announced his retirement on June 29, 2025, after President Trump ripped into him for voting “no” to the advancement of the “Big, Beautiful Bill” based on its proposed cuts to Medicaid. The president reportedly threatened to primary Sen. Tillis, berating him for his opposition to the bill, which pushed the senator to retire. In response, Trump supporters roasted him online for his subversion of the president’s goals.

Announcing his retirement in an official statement, the Senator explained, “In Washington over the last few years, it’s become increasingly evident that leaders who are willing to embrace bipartisanship, compromise, and demonstrate independent thinking are becoming an endangered species.” He added, “As many of my colleagues have noticed over the last year, and at times even joked about, I haven’t exactly been excited about running for another term.”

Importantly, Sen. Tillis was the third Senate Republican to vote against the Republican megabill, along with Sens. Rand Paul (KY) and Ron Johnson (WI). Speaking in the Senate about his opposition to the bill, Sen. Tillis said, “What do I tell 663,000 people in two years or three years, when President Trump breaks his promise by pushing them off of Medicaid because the funding’s not there anymore, guys? I think the people in the White House … advising the president are not telling him that the effect of this bill is to break a promise,”

Continuing, the senator said that Republicans “are about to make a mistake on health care and betraying a promise.” He continued, “It is inescapable that this bill in its current form will betray the very promise that Donald J. Trump made in the Oval Office or in the Cabinet Room, when I was there with finance, where he said we can go after waste, fraud, and abuse on any programs.”

Furthermore, Sen. Tillis said that his fellow Republicans “have been misinformed,” adding, “You supporting the Senate mark will hurt people who are eligible and qualified for Medicaid.” He went on, “In fact, I like the work of the House so much that I wouldn’t be having to do this speech if we simply started with the House mark. I’ve talked with my colleagues in North Carolina. I know that we can do that. And I believe that we can make sure that we do not break the promise of Donald J. Trump, that he’s made to the people who are on Medicaid today.”

When the X user Johnny Maga announced that Sen. Tillis was retiring to his over 200,000 followers, he ripped into the senator, saying, “Tillis took a payout to retire and in exchange, tried to kill the premiere legislative win of Trump’s career, screwing his constituents out of eliminating taxes on tips and overtime in the process.” He added, “Good riddance, scumbag.”

In addition, more Trump supporters torched the senator in the comments section, with one commenter writing, “Breaking: Thom Tillis finally makes a decision that is good for America lol.” Another chimed in, “I’d vote for Mel Tillis over this guy and he’s been dead eight years.”
