DHS Finds New Way to Crack Down on Illegal Immigration, Prevent Future Terror Attacks

Under President Trump, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has found a new way to crack down on foreign nationals staying in the United States with overdue Visas, which makes them illegal aliens in the eyes of the law, as a response to the horrific terrorist attack in Boulder, Colorado, which was allegedly perpetrated by an Egyptian national in the U.S. on an overdue Visa.

For context, on June 4, 2025, the Department of Homeland Security released a statement announcing a new crackdown on Visa overstays in response to the terrorist attack perpetrated by Mohammed Sabry Soliman, who now faces federal hate crime charges, along with state felony charges, after setting at least eight American citizens on fire in Boulder, Colorado. According to DHS, Soliman had been living illegally in the U.S. on an overdue Visa since 2022.

In DHS’s official statement, the agency announced that they were “ramping up the review of immigration records” in response to “the Biden Administration’s failure to enforce the law.” The statement confirmed that the crackdown, which it described as “urgent,” was a direct response to Soliman’s act of terror.

Adding a comment to the announcement from DHS, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said, “There is NO room in the United States for the rest of the world’s terrorist sympathizers.” She added, “Anyone who thinks they can come to America and advocate for antisemitic violence and terrorism – think again. You are not welcome here. We will find you, deport you, and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law.”

Furthermore, in a June 3, 2025, post on X, Secretary Noem confirmed that Soliman’s family is now in ICE custody, writing, “Today, @DHSgov and @ICEGov are taking the family of suspected Boulder, Colorado terrorist, and illegal alien, Mohamed Soliman, into ICE custody.” The secretary continued, “This terrorist will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We are investigating to what extent his family knew about this heinous attack, if they had knowledge of it, or if they provided support to it.”

In addition, according to press accounts, Soliman is now facing life in prison based on charges of a federal hate crime, along with state charges that include 16 counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of use of an incendiary device, 16 counts of attempted use of an incendiary device, and eight counts of first-degree assault. During his attack, he was filmed shouting, “Free Palestine!”

In response to Soliman’s attack, President Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Acts of Terrorism will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law. This is yet another example of why we must keep our Borders SECURE, and deport Illegal, anti-American radicals from our Homeland.” The president added, “My heart goes out to the victims of this terrible tragedy, and the Great People of Boulder, Colorado!”

Additionally, according to press accounts, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that Soliman had been “foolishly given a tourism Visa” under the Biden Administration, adding, “These individuals are going to be deported, and we’re not going to tolerate such violence in our country.” Leavitt continued, “Rest assured to all Jewish Americans across our great country, this president has your back and he’s not going to allow anyone to take part in violent terrorism, acts of terrorism, in our country.”
