The future isn’t looking bright for the Democrats with the midterm elections fast approaching, especially after the Senate GOP’s top super PAC brought in more than double their fundraising record at a whopping $85 million in preparation for the upcoming elections, adding to a long list of disasters for the Dems that appear to be setting the stage for their defeat in 2026.
For background, on July 8, 2025, Alex Latcham, the executive director for the Republican super PAC Senate Leadership Fund (SLF), told Axios that his group had raised $85 million in the first half of the year, leading Washington Republicans to have high hopes for maintaining their majority in the 2026 midterms.
Speaking to Axios’ Stef. W. Wright, Latcham explained that his organization is “working with [the White House] to identify and vet Senate candidates,” describing the White House as a key asset “as we navigate some of these primaries.” Moreover, Latcham said that his organization will “continue to be the preeminent outside group dedicated to, you know, keeping and expanding the Senate Republican majority.”
In addition, on the same day that Axios reported on their fundraising success, SLF released a statement responding to the announcement that Democrat Dan Osborn would be running against Sen. Pete Ricketts (R-NE) in the upcoming primaries. SLF stated: “Congratulations to the Democrat consultants who recruited yet another candidate for a suicide mission. We’re certain they’ll have new beach homes before Dan Osborn wins a Senate seat. This will be fun.”
Furthermore, Sen. Ricketts responded to Osborn’s announcement via a spokesman, who told The New York Times, “Dan Osborn is bought and paid for by his liberal, out-of-state, coastal donors,” adding. “Dan Osborn will side with Chuck Schumer over Nebraska families and vote with Democrats to open the border, hike taxes, and stop the America First agenda.”
Moreover, SLF’s chairman, Cory Gardner, a former Colorado senator, and Latcham issued an additional statement confirming that they are “launching aggressive campaigns against 13 Democrat-held seats in competitive states such as Michigan and Georgia” ahead of the 2026 elections, adding, “Our goal is not only to hold the line—but to push forward, broadening the playing field and building a durable, long-term Republican Senate majority.”
Continuing, SLF’s leadership wrote that their organization’s success depends on supporters’ “commitment, guidance, and friendship,” adding, “We look forward to working together in this defining moment for our country and our party.” Moreover, speaking to Aciox, Latcham said that significant support for the super PAC was coming from “the crypto community.”
